The reaction to Argentina’s recent World Cup run and FIFA’s perceived bias is the most controversial topic at the 2026 World Cup. Argentina got away with far too much on and off the field. During the 2022 World Cup, the sheer number of penalty kicks awarded to Argentina 5 in 7 games looks suspicious. Refereeing decisions and VAR interventions were consistently in their favour during key moments in 2022 and 2026. The Argentines have a reputation for gamesmanship, from aggressive tactics and taunting opponents to fouls that are repeatedly overlooked by referees, they frequently rub neutral and opposing fans the wrong way. Argentine fans are also unsporting, racist and have absolutely no respect for their opponents.

Argentina fans are racist hooligans, but why are there no consequences for their FA and their supporters?

Enzo Fernandez finally gets what he deserves, but he really should have been sent off against England in the semi-finals.

Argentina has traditionally relied on heavy-handed tackling, political interference, intimidation and raw gamesmanship to win matches. During the 1978 World Cup on home ground, referees allowed dirty tackles by Argentina to go mostly unpunished, allowing games to descend into chaotic, physical brawls that favoured the hosts. Group rivals Brazil had completed their games, meaning Argentina needed to beat Peru by at least 4 goals to reach the final. Peru had been solid defensively up to that point, but were trounced 6–0. The outcome appeared fixed.

Why is violent conduct, cheating, aggression and winning by any means so prevalent among South American countries? Without the blatant favoritism shown by the referees and FIFA, Argentina would never have reached the World Cup Final. Uruguay and Paraguay are the other worse offenders. Brazil is far more cultured and practices far less gamesmanship.

Champion cheats of 2026 World Cup: Argentina's Paredes gets a red card after the game for violent conduct.

Cheating is seen as clever play by Argentina, and not dishonesty. Diego Maradona set the worst example in 1986 to cheat England.

To the Argentines, winning through deception and cheating is street-wise behaviour and not dishonesty. The ends justify the means.

Argentina is a disgrace to football and to the World Cup, but Spain put them in their place. There was a petition from 14 million people who wanted the Argentines to be banned from competing at this World Cup, but FIFA refused to listen.

FUCK ARGENTINA!!

The UK put Argentina in their place during the Falklands War. Too bad, England do not seem to be able to do that on the football pitch.
