President Donald Trump pushed back on critics who have questioned the state of his health, telling The Wall Street Journal in an interview published Thursday that he denies falling asleep in meetings and takes a higher dose of aspirin than recommended by his doctors.

“They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart,” Trump told the Journal, attributing often-visible bruises on his hands — and the makeup he uses to try to cover them — to the medication. “I take the larger one, but I’ve done it for years, and what it does do is it causes bruising.”

Trump’s physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, told the Journal in a statement that the president takes 325 milligrams of aspirin a day for “cardiac prevention.”

Aspirin acts as an anticoagulant, meant to help prevent blood clots from forming. Blood clots that travel to the heart can lead to heart attacks. The medication can also increase a person’s risk of bleeding because it prevents clots from forming in wounds.

Makeup covers a bruise on the back of U.S. President Donald Trump's hand.
The 79-year-old president, who in January 2025 became the oldest man ever sworn in to the nation’s top office, has spent more time than he would like in the last year defending his vigor and vitality. In addition to the bruising, he has appeared to fall asleep during meetings. The White House also revealed in October that he had undergone advanced imaging of his torso, setting off speculation about the reason for the diagnostic measures.

“In retrospect, it’s too bad I took it because it gave them a little ammunition,” Trump told the Journal in describing the CT scan performed on him. In October, he had said the imaging was an MRI. “I would have been a lot better off if they didn’t, because the fact that I took it said, ‘Oh gee, is something wrong?’ Well, nothing’s wrong.”

"President Trump agreed to meet with the staff and soldiers at Walter Reed Medical Hospital in October. In order to make the most of the President’s time at the hospital, we recommended he undergo another routine physical evaluation to ensure continued optimal health," Barbabella said in statement to NBC News. "As part of that examination, we asked the President if he would undergo advanced imaging — either an MRI or CT Scan — to definitively rule out any cardiovascular issues. The President agreed, and our team of consultants performed a CT Scan. As we revealed in the post-examination report, the advanced imaging was perfectly normal and revealed absolutely no abnormalities.”

“President Trump’s medical evaluations and laboratory results continue to show excellent metabolic health, and have revealed his cardiovascular health puts him 14 years younger than his age," Barbabella said. "Overall, the President remains in exceptional health and perfectly suited to execute his duties as Commander in Chief."

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt defended messaging around the procedures, saying “the President’s physicians and the White House have always maintained the President received advanced imaging."

"Additional details on the imaging have been disclosed by the President himself because he continues to be the most transparent and open president in history," Leavitt added, while former president Joe Biden.

Barbabella also told the Journal that Trump has a condition called “superficial chronic venous insufficiency,” which caused swelling in his lower legs earlier this year.

Trump said in the interview that he wore compression socks to help with the problem but discarded them because “I didn’t like them.”

The president and his aides may be particularly sensitive to issues surrounding his age and health because Biden, was undermined by obvious signs of decline during their 2024 presidential election battle. Ultimately, Biden dropped out of the race — but remained in the presidency — following a disastrous debate performance against Trump.

Now, Trump finds it necessary to combat the narrative that age is taking a toll on his presidency, and that appears to be annoying to him.

“Let’s talk about health again for the 25th time,” Trump said in the Journal interview. “My health is perfect.”

At the same time, Trump said that he has asked his aides to limit his schedule — a move that Biden undertook as he tried to save his candidacy in 2024 — so that he can focus more on the most important meetings. The Journal reported that Trump starts his day in the Oval Office around 10 a.m. and typically works until 7 p.m. or 8 p.m.

Famously enamored of golf, Trump told the newspaper that he doesn’t exercise outside the workouts he gets on the links.

“I just don’t like it. It’s boring,” Trump said. “To walk on a treadmill or run on a treadmill for hours and hours like some people do, that’s not for me.”

Despite a series of episodes where he has appeared to fall asleep — dating back as far as his 2024 trial in New York — Trump suggested that he was merely resting his eyes at times, including a recent Cabinet meeting where he was captured on video.

“I’ll just close. It’s very relaxing to me,” he said. “Sometimes they’ll take a picture of me blinking, blinking, and they’ll catch me with the blink.”

Most certainly the best President ever. He has more energy than those half is age. The man is miracle. It's almost as if he can walk on water.

The Ultimate Guide to Nattokinase

Nature's Blood Thinner & Arterial Cleanser

Have you ever wondered why certain traditional foods have been treasured for centuries despite their, shall we say, acquired taste? Natto—a fermented soybean dish that's been a Japanese staple for over 1,000 years—might win the award for "most beneficial food you'd have to pay most Americans to eat."

But hidden within this sticky, pungent delicacy is an enzyme so powerful that it's revolutionizing our approach to cardiovascular health: Nattokinase. (I personally rather use supplement)

The Discovery That Changed Everything

While most Westerners were avoiding anything with the word "fermented" in the description, Japanese researchers in the 1980s were making a groundbreaking discovery. They isolated a remarkable enzyme from natto that demonstrated potent fibrinolytic activity—meaning it could dissolve blood clots and break down fibrin, a protein involved in blood clotting.

This enzyme, naturally called nattokinase, has since become one of the most studied natural compounds for cardiovascular health, with research suggesting benefits that pharmaceutical companies probably wish they could patent.

"Nattokinase represents one of the most promising natural interventions for maintaining healthy blood flow and arterial function discovered in the past century." - Dr. Martin Milner, Center for Natural Medicine

⚡ What Makes Nattokinase So Special?

Unlike many supplements that make big promises but deliver small results, nattokinase has a clear, scientifically-validated mechanism of action:

  1. Direct Fibrinolytic Activity - It directly dissolves fibrin, the protein that forms the framework of blood clots and arterial plaque
  2. Plasminogen Activation - It enhances your body's own clot-dissolving mechanisms by increasing plasmin production
  3. Enzyme Inhibition - It inhibits plasma PAI-1 (Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor), which normally prevents clot breakdown
  4. Blood Viscosity Reduction - It reduces the "stickiness" of blood, improving circulation throughout your entire body
  5. Anti-inflammatory Effects - It helps reduce systemic inflammation that contributes to arterial damage
In other words, nattokinase doesn't just target one pathway—it works through multiple complementary mechanisms to support healthy blood flow and arterial function.

The Blood-Thinning Master: How Nattokinase Works

Let's get a bit more specific about how this remarkable enzyme thins your blood (without the side effects of conventional blood thinners).

When you're injured, your body forms a blood clot through a complex cascade involving fibrinogen being converted to fibrin, which creates a mesh-like structure that traps platelets and forms a clot. This is essential for preventing blood loss.

However, your body also needs to be able to dissolve these clots through fibrinolysis once healing begins. This is where the system can sometimes falter, especially as we age.

Here's where nattokinase comes in:

  1. It directly degrades fibrin by cleaving specific peptide bonds in the fibrin molecule
  2. It activates pro-urokinase, converting it to urokinase, which then activates plasminogen to plasmin—your body's natural clot-buster
  3. It inactivates Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), which normally suppresses fibrinolysis
  4. It decreases plasma levels of fibrinogen, factor VII, and factor VIII (all clotting factors)
The beauty of nattokinase is that, unlike pharmaceutical blood thinners that can work too aggressively, it helps restore balance to your body's natural clotting and clot-dissolving mechanisms.

Perfect Timing: When to Take Nattokinase for Maximum Benefit

Your body's coagulation system follows distinct circadian rhythms, with several key factors peaking in the morning hours. This is why heart attacks and strokes are more common in the early morning—your blood is naturally more prone to clotting during this time.

For 12,000 FU of nattokinase, optimal timing is:

  • Primary Dose: 6,000 FU upon waking (5:00-7:00 AM) This targets the morning hypercoagulable state when platelet aggregation and fibrinogen levels naturally peak
  • Secondary Dose: 6,000 FU before bed (9:00-11:00 PM) This provides coverage during the early morning hours when stroke and heart attack risk is highest
If taking only once daily, the evening dose is arguably most strategic as it provides protection during the vulnerable early morning hours when you're asleep.

Important note: Nattokinase's effects typically last 8-12 hours, which is why split dosing provides more consistent protection.

️ Empty Stomach or With Food?

Despite what you might read elsewhere, the science suggests nattokinase should be taken on an empty stomach for maximum absorption and efficacy. Here's why:

  1. Food—especially fatty foods—can delay absorption by 1-2 hours
  2. Protein-digesting enzymes in your digestive tract may partially degrade nattokinase if taken with protein-containing meals
  3. Studies measuring fibrinolytic activity show stronger effects when nattokinase is taken 30 minutes before meals
For optimal results, take nattokinase at least 30 minutes before eating or 2 hours after a meal.

Fun fact: In Japan, natto is traditionally eaten at breakfast, which aligns perfectly with addressing the morning hypercoagulable state!

Who Should Avoid Nattokinase?

While nattokinase offers remarkable benefits, it's not for everyone. You should avoid nattokinase if you:

  • Take prescription blood thinners (warfarin, apixaban, rivaroxaban, etc.)
  • Have a bleeding disorder like hemophilia
  • Are about to undergo surgery (discontinue at least 2 weeks before)
  • Have had a hemorrhagic stroke
  • Have severe liver disease
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding (insufficient safety data)
  • Have an allergy to soybeans
Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting nattokinase, especially if you have existing health conditions or take medications.

Medication Interactions to Watch For

Nattokinase can potentially interact with several medications:

  1. Blood Thinners/Anticoagulants
    • Warfarin (Coumadin)
    • Apixaban (Eliquis)
    • Rivaroxaban (Xarelto)
    • Dabigatran (Pradaxa)
    • Heparin
    • Edoxaban (Savaysa, Lixiana)
  2. Antiplatelet Medications
    • Aspirin
    • Clopidogrel (Plavix)
    • Ticagrelor (Brilinta)
    • Prasugrel (Effient)
    • Dipyridamole (Persantine)
  3. Other Medications
    • NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) – may increase bleeding risk
    • Some herbal supplements (garlic, ginkgo, etc.) – may have additive effects
    • Certain antibiotics – may alter effectiveness
A good rule of thumb: If your medication comes with warnings about bleeding risk, it potentially interacts with nattokinase.

Arterial Benefits: Addressing Both Soft Plaque and Calcification

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of nattokinase is its potential to not just prevent but actually reverse arterial plaque—something few interventions can claim.

Arterial plaque has two main components:

  1. Soft plaque - composed of cholesterol, fat, fibrin, foam cells, and inflammatory cells
  2. Calcified plaque - hardened areas where calcium has deposited into the artery wall
How nattokinase helps with soft plaque:

  • Directly dissolves the fibrin component of plaque (which can make up 20-50% of arterial plaque)
  • Reduces inflammation in the arterial wall
  • Improves endothelial function (the inner lining of blood vessels)
  • Decreases oxidative stress that contributes to plaque formation
Effects on calcification:

While nattokinase doesn't directly dissolve calcium deposits, it helps by:

  • Increasing blood flow to calcified areas, supporting natural healing processes
  • Reducing inflammation that promotes calcification
  • Potentially working synergistically with vitamin K2, which helps direct calcium away from arteries
  • Creating an environment where the body's natural repair mechanisms can function better

The Research Evidence

Let's look at some compelling studies:

  1. A 2018 human study showed that nattokinase supplementation (2,000 FU daily) for 26 weeks resulted in significant reductions in carotid plaque size and improved blood flow
  2. A 2008 study published in Hypertension Research found that nattokinase supplementation lowered systolic and diastolic blood pressure by an average of 5.5 mmHg and 2.84 mmHg, respectively
  3. A 2015 study demonstrated nattokinase's ability to dissolve amyloid fibrils (similar in structure to fibrin clots) and suggested potential applications beyond cardiovascular health
  4. A 2009 clinical trial showed that nattokinase could decrease fibrinogen, factor VII, and factor VIII levels—all factors involved in excessive clotting
  5. Recent research suggests nattokinase may help reduce spike protein persistence and related complications by degrading fibrin-like structures

Who Benefits Most from Nattokinase?

While nearly everyone could benefit from the occasional circulatory boost, these groups might find nattokinase particularly valuable:

  • Adults over 40 facing natural increases in blood viscosity and clotting potential
  • People with cardiovascular risk factors like high blood pressure, elevated fibrinogen, or family history of heart disease
  • Those with sedentary lifestyles which often leads to poor circulation
  • Long-distance travelers facing increased DVT (deep vein thrombosis) risk
  • Athletes seeking improved recovery and microcirculation to muscles
  • Those with metabolic syndrome or insulin resistance which often involves hypercoagulability
  • People with chronic inflammatory conditions that increase clotting risk
  • Individuals looking for a preventative approach to cardiovascular health

The Natto Dilemma: Supplement vs. Food

If you're thinking, "Great! I'll just eat natto daily and get all these benefits!" I admire your enthusiasm. But let me share a little story:

I once served natto to my unsuspecting Canadian friends, describing it only as "a traditional Japanese delicacy." The reactions ranged from polite grimaces to one friend discreetly spitting it into a napkin while mumbling something about "fermented gym socks."

The reality is, while natto is incredibly healthy, its slimy texture and pungent aroma make it an acquired taste that many Westerners struggle with. Plus, you'd need to eat about 50 grams daily to get therapeutic levels of nattokinase.

For most people, a standardized supplement providing 2,000-12,000 FU (Fibrinolytic Units) daily is more practical and allows precise dosing.

How to Choose a Quality Nattokinase Supplement

Not all nattokinase supplements are created equal. Here's what to look for:

  1. Potency - Clearly stated in Fibrinolytic Units (FU) per capsule
  2. Non-GMO - Since it's derived from soybeans, non-GMO sources are preferable
  3. Vitamin K2 free - Some formulations include K2, which has different effects; choose based on your needs
  4. NSK-SD® certification - This is a highly purified form with extensive research behind it
  5. Enteric coating - Helps protect the enzyme from stomach acid degradation
  6. Third-party testing - Ensures potency and purity
Current Supplement I’ve tested

Pro tip: If you're taking nattokinase for cardiovascular health, formulations that combine it with other circulatory supporting nutrients like Pomegranate extract, Grape Seed extract, or Hawthorn can provide synergistic benefits.

⏱️ Timeline: What to Expect When Taking Nattokinase

Immediate (1-3 hours):

  • Enhanced fibrinolytic activity in the bloodstream
  • Subtle improvements in blood flow to extremities
  • Potential slight warming of hands and feet
Short-term (1-4 weeks):

  • Noticeable improvements in circulation
  • Reduction in blood pressure for some individuals
  • Improved endurance during physical activity
  • Initial softening of arterial plaque composition
Medium-term (1-3 months):

  • Significant reduction in blood viscosity
  • Measurable decreases in fibrinogen levels
  • Improvement in endothelial function
  • Further improvements in blood pressure
  • Reduction in inflammatory markers
Long-term (3-6+ months):

  • Potential regression of soft arterial plaque
  • Improved arterial elasticity and compliance
  • Stabilized blood pressure
  • Significant improvement in overall cardiovascular risk profile
  • Enhanced collateral circulation around partially blocked arteries

Advanced Strategy: Synergistic Combinations

For those seeking maximum arterial and circulatory benefits, consider these evidence-based combinations:

  1. Nattokinase + Serrapeptase This powerful enzyme duo works through complementary mechanisms to address both fibrin and inflammatory components of arterial plaque
  2. Nattokinase + Lumbrokinase Another enzyme pair that offers potent fibrinolytic activity through different pathways
  3. Nattokinase + Omega-3s Combines fibrinolytic activity with anti-inflammatory and lipid-modulating benefits
  4. Nattokinase + Vitamin K2 While some people should avoid this combination, for others it offers the dual benefit of fibrin breakdown and proper calcium channeling
  5. Nattokinase + Pycnogenol Combines fibrinolytic effects with powerful endothelial support and antioxidant protection
Remember: More isn't always better, and some combinations require careful timing and dosing. Consult with a knowledgeable healthcare provider for personalized guidance.

Q: Will nattokinase interact with my pre-surgery protocols? A: Yes. You should discontinue nattokinase at least 2 weeks before any surgical procedure and inform all your healthcare providers about your supplement use.

Putting It All Together: Key Takeaways

  1. Nattokinase is a powerful enzyme from fermented soybeans that naturally thins blood and supports arterial health
  2. The optimal dosage of 12,000 FU daily is best split between morning and evening, taken on an empty stomach
  3. It works by breaking down fibrin, activating your body's own clot-dissolving mechanisms, and reducing blood viscosity
  4. Nattokinase may help reduce both soft plaque and indirectly support the body's management of arterial calcification
  5. Those on blood thinners, with bleeding disorders, or about to undergo surgery should avoid nattokinase
  6. Consistent use over 3-6 months may significantly improve circulatory health and arterial function
The research on nattokinase continues to expand, with potential applications beyond cardiovascular health being explored. As we learn more, this remarkable enzyme may become as common in medicine cabinets as aspirin—just with fewer side effects and more comprehensive benefits.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does nattokinase affect INR or regular blood tests? A: Nattokinase can potentially affect certain coagulation tests, including INR. If you're monitoring these values, inform your healthcare provider about nattokinase use.

Q: Can I take nattokinase instead of my prescribed blood thinner? A: Absolutely not. Never discontinue prescribed medications without your doctor's guidance. Nattokinase is a supplement, not a replacement for medically necessary blood thinners.

Q: How quickly does nattokinase work? A: Fibrinolytic activity begins within 2-4 hours of ingestion, with peak activity around 4-8 hours after taking it. However, structural arterial benefits develop over months of consistent use.

Q: Is nattokinase safe for daily, long-term use? A: Studies support the safety of long-term use at recommended dosages for most healthy individuals. As with any supplement, periodic breaks (1 week every 3 months) may be beneficial.

As you can see I don't agree with everything Trump does or says. He should do a bit more research when it comes to his health.

Having said that he's reaching 80 in relatively good health which is a milestone a decade away from achieving.

For his age, he can only take such dosage for another 5-10 years, for blood-thinners like aspirin or warfarin. Very soon, somewhere in his body will leak blood, eg. intestines, benign uclers because of the high dosage.

When that happens, his red blood counts will collapse and he will risk falling. The whole world will be mistaken and thinks that he is very unwell. While his doctors will definitely do a full body check for him, but all he needs is one packet of blood transfusion (due to the internal blood leak).

I recommend President Trump to take a short break or after his term, install a watchman device in his heart. Doing so, will remove the need for such excessive blood thinners and bring down the odds of cardiac/stroke to near-zero. I think only 100-200 people have this in Singapore.

I doubt he'll still be around in 10 year's time. Once his job is done he will be called to the Lord.

Most certainly the best President ever. He has more energy than those half is age. The man is miracle. It's almost as if he can walk on water.
your trump hero worshipping has gone beyond ridiculous! Surprised you have not reintroduced your trump superman banner. But please don't do that, because it would certainly drive us nuts.:confused:

Sorry about that it's just that I'm so enthralled by what is happening. What Trump is doing today is everything I have always wished the US would do and for so many decades it's been one disappointment after another as I watched America being taken for a sucker on the world stage.

I'm a fan of American imperialism simply because if the US doesn't dominate the world then someone far less desirable will. You can call me a fanboy or any other term but it won't make a scrap of difference to me.

America helped me succeed in all aspects of my life. My first job was with an American company and it was a wonderful time. Those in my cohort of graduates that ended up in European or local companies were miserable while those that worked for the yanks were having a ball.

The French, Germans, Italians and Dutch treated Singaporeans as 2nd class citizens in the workplace hierarchy whereas the Americans treated us as equals. Many of us rose to senior management positions in record time while those in European firms were stuck in technical jobs with department head positions all reserved for the white man.

America is the most benevolent of all superpowers. They aren't perfect. No country is. However history has shown that after a country is defeated by the US they will do their level best to make sure it bounces back and thrives like never before. What other superpower would have spared emperor Hirohito after WW2. It was American pragmatism at work. Japan's best chances of getting back on its feet was by having its governing structure intact.

Of course they have made mistakes eg Iraq was a classic example or perhaps warhawk Bush and Cheney didn't care what happened after Sadam was exterminated. However to believe that a Middle Eastern country could run by adopting Western democratic principles was naive at best or stupidity at its worst.

Trust me Singaporeans are far more Western than they realise and US dominance is their best option for the long term. The Island is way more vulnerable than many realise. A US controlled SEA is the best option available.

I understand what you said and I totally agree. It's the same with me, I have always been grateful and felt so blessed that we have the US to provide us with the products, ideas and services to make our lives better. They have been awesome in ensuring global security, thus allowing our country and other countries to thrive post WW2. A friendly, caring, magnanimous superpower that would not hesitate to send their sons to die anywhere in the world to upkeep freedom and democratic ideals.

Yes they have made mistakes. But the net sum is the good they did far outweighed the wrongs. So they're a net positive. I have plenty of american friends, business associates and relatives. A long time friend of mine who's a republican (he's also a retired US army colonel and civil servant) apologised for trump and for what the US has become. He also said that he felt bad that they have caused worry and discomfort worldwide.

So the US under trump is not the US we have grown to love and respect. It's become selfish, lacking in foresight, and has no qualm in turning the world upside down in the name of "protecting" america. Those of us who feel this way are not alone, the list includes world leaders too. Even a growing pool of americans have become sickened.

I have the opposite view. I grew to love America during the Reagan era and was very upset when he was shot. Thank God he survived because he did great things and restored America's mojo after the Jimmy Carter disaster. George Bush Senior didn't make much of mark he only had one term. The Clinton years were great which proves I'm in no way anti Democrat.

The rot set in during the George W Bush era with the Republican hawks in charge. That black guy was the ultimate disaster. Then came Trump's first term and he was yet to understand the way things worked in Washington and the constant leaks undermined what could have been a net positive.

It was the Biden era that turned me into an ardent MAGA supporter. The radical left with their lunatic policies on DEI, LGBTQ rights ahead of womens' rights, allowing men in girls changing rooms, anti capitalist rhetoric, anti white racism, censorship and blatant fraud is what made me pray for a Trump win.

Have faith. Trump is doing the right thing policy wise. It's just his bombastic behavior and choice of words that turn people off. If he had the eloquence and charm of Reagan he'd be judged far more favorably.

Since the day I developed the capacity to understand things, I've always loved the US. It was a country that had balance between left and right, it was auto-centering mostly. Being far left (biden) or far right creates too much friction which we saw during the biden years and is what we're seeing now. Only difference now is the ripples throughout the world have turned tumultuous. Everyone is the worse off for it.

You MAGA? I repeat : there is no reason to be MAGA unless you're a white, straight, christian american. Else you're as confused as a black nazi!

I'm straight, support many Christian protestant values while at the same time a liberal when it comes to certain aspects of life, believe in reward for hard work and consequences for sloth, hate the concept of socialism, support meritocracy regardless of skin colour while at the same time holding the belief that certain races are genetically superior to others.

i share your view, but that does not make me MAGA. Neither does it make you one.
