SINGAPORE – A 30-year-old motorcyclist died after a collision with an SBS Transit bus on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Oct 9.

The police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force said they were alerted to the accident on the PIE towards Changi before the Bedok Reservoir Road exit at about 5pm that day.

They said the female motorcyclist was taken unconscious to Changi General Hospital, where she subsequently died.

In response to a media query, SBS Transit spokeswoman Grace Wu said CCTV footage from the off-service bus, which was in the third lane, showed the motorcyclist, who was between two vehicles in the adjacent lanes on the right, falling.

“The impact caused her to be thrown into lane three, where our bus captain swerved and applied the emergency brakes in an effort to avoid her, but sadly could not,” said Mrs Wu.

She added that SBS Transit has provided the CCTV footage to the police to aid in investigations.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of the motorcyclist and would like to extend our sincere condolences to her family during this very difficult time,” she said.

In dashcam footage from a passing car, posted on Facebook page SGRV, a van and an SBS Transit bus are seen making a sudden stop on the expressway.

As the car with the dashcam passes the scene, an orange scooter is seen on its side in the third lane, in front of the bus.

A person believed to be the bus driver and another motorist are later seen crouching and checking under the front of the bus.

Police investigations are ongoing.

A note to all fathers.

Please disallow your daughters to ride a motorcycle in Singapore. The driving culture has changed tremendously from 20 years ago. Now, it is dangerous. More vehicles are on the road. And vehicles move closer together giving little time for response.
I quit motorcycles because of it, what more a female whose spatial awareness, and response and decisive actions is much lower than mine?

Fathers, save yourselves from the heartache of losing your daughters. It is just a matter of time they will get into an accident.

All riders of 2 wheels must understand this
"If it is your fault, or not your fault, you are the loser".
.
Get a 4 wheel vehicle.
Only PAP policy on COE is killing Sinkies.

been riding for close to 50 years and countless minor accidents, not many females have situation awareness, they are simply not built to be bikers, they see on social media how cool it is to ride. but the reality is motobikes in spore especially during peak hours are damn fucking dangerous with all the cement mixers and lorries rushing around like mad dogs........

I agree. But men being men, have a responsibility to earn for the family. But to each, his own.
I am very fortunate that my kids are not into motorcycling. In fact they abhor it. Also the fact they have easy access to cars all these while. Hahaha
So fathers, buy your kids a car. It's not money wasted. It's lives saved.

Rip. Encountered one that zip around with no regards of danger. If only these riders have safety of road users & theirs in mind.

Motorcyclists also contribute to their own deaths and injuries by riding in between lanes even on the expressways at high speed. Malaysian bikers have even created their own lane, especially on the BKE, making it hazardous when bigger vehicles switch between lanes.

In S'pore, where only less than 10% of the population own a car, it is asking a great deal for a father to provide a few vehicles for the household.

Too much heavy vehicles flying Iike Jay Chuo Toyota

As a car driver, I also feel intimidated by the lorries and buses drawing alongside me at high speed along the expressways at times.
