cyclist failed to conform to red light signal & gets hit by toyota

SINGAPORE - A 41-year-old cyclist who was taken to the hospital after an accident with a car in Bugis on the morning of June 19 has died.

The Straits Times first reported about the accident on June 19. The cyclist died the next day, according to the police.

The police said they were alerted to the accident at Victoria Street towards Kallang Road at 6.30am that day.

In video footage of the accident uploaded on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page, a cyclist can be seen riding across one side of the junction. He appears to be going against a red traffic light.

As he crosses the middle of the junction, a car comes into the frame, and the ensuing collision sends him flying off his bicycle.

The traffic light for the car changes from yellow to red just before the point of impact.

The cyclist was taken unconscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he later died, said the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

A 44-year-old male car driver is assisting with police investigations.

The cyclist was riding against a red traffic light at night, so it is not the driver's fault even if he has the duty of care. Why was the cyclist so careless about protecting his own life?

At least he wasn't hit by Ma Chi's Ferrari, he and his bicycle would have flown to Little India.

Come to think of it, it could be suicide. Because no one is that dumb!
There are plentiful of these suicidal grab cyclists on the road nowadays… they dun care red light or green light and jitao Cheong

Best of all, they wear black black , and their e-bicycles can achieve 50km or more…a real road hazard for all road users

The PHV's dash cam showed that the jaywalker was visible owing to the car's headlights, but the driver didn't slowdown. He was probably sleepy and complacent.
There was another case at Paya Lebar junction when 2 young folks rush across the road - the right 2 lanes car stopped despite there is a green light, but the left lane car view being blocked by the right 2 lanes take off and hit them

I am especially wary of motorcyclists who ride between 2 lanes because they believe it gives them the right to drift into either lane at a whim w/o even signalling. As I use the expressways almost daily, I have to vigilant when it comes to such bikers.

Esp at BKE during peak 3pm-9pm or 5am-10am

Always signal in advance and let these Jiuhu Bike Ah Siao cleared first before switch lane

I have to keep an extra lookout whenever I switch lanes as bikers tend to appear out of nowhere at speed as they weave in and out of traffic.

As a responsible PCN and pedestrian walkway cyclist, I observe all traffic rules. Sometimes when it's red man, pedestrians just crossed and no fuck care but I am the obedient one waiting for the green man before I continue my journey.

I don't understand why the law protects such law breakers...if a bicycle is classified as a vehicle than they should obey all vehicular traffic rules...if a car run redlight n hit a car that has the right of way....the one that run redlight is at fault...so if a cyclist does the same thing..why the car that hit him is at fault?same with pedestrians...If a pedestrian jaywalk...will Kenna fine...so if pedestrian jay walk n get hit by car with right of way..why the driver Kenna?

And there is this BS rule about keeping. a lookout...if that the case... pedestrians n cyclists should also keep a look out for incoming cars on the main road...and cyclists need to keep a look out for pedestrians in foot paths.

You and I are the same. We obey traffic rules all the time. The pap ought to honour us with money and awards!
