When she shared in a TikTok video how she quit her job at Apple to open Charim Korean BBQ with her mum at Tanjong Pagar, it resonated with netizens and soon went viral.

It has since garnered over 366,000 views.

A restaurant is a very challenging business to own and operate, especially with the high or very high rent, the uncertainty caused by COVID.
As an insolvency practitioner, I hope that she did not have to provide a personal guarantee for the business bank loan, if any, and did not have to provide a guarantee, or worse, an indemnity to the business landlord.
Not sure about the legislation and case law in Singapore, in Canada, there is a difference for a personal guarantee versus an indemnity as it pertains to a bankrupt corporation vis a vis the landlord, guarantor and Insolvency Trustee (and the Ontario Landlord and Tenants Act).
Good luck.

Some locally owned chain restaurants in jiu hu were bought over by internationsl investors for hundreds of millions RM.

Oppie Chee appears to be a better F&B businessman than he is as an opposition political figure. He made the right choice in menu. His main course menu is easy enough to prepare, unlike foods like m&d nasi padang or zichar. He also offers coffee and cakes and alcohol, which pulls in crowds during off-peak period and after dinner. Dessert menu have a surprisingly good profit margin due to low manpower cost of preparation.

His location is fairly decent and the rent is cheap due to the overall low foot traffic in his particular location. As much as I hate to say it, I think oppie chee's restaurant has a fairly high chance of surviving and even turning in a profit if there's no lockdown.

Getting a halal cert costs a fair bit of money and puts restrictions on your hiring staff. You must have moslem kitchen staff if you get a halal cert. The moslem kitchen staff serve like political officers to keep an eye on the rest of the staff to make sure they aren't flavouring the food with lard or bacon.

That's why many moslem F&B business aren't halal either. They instead advertise themselves as '100% moslem owned" to save on the halal costs, which has to be renewed periodically. It's an unnecessary expense.
