KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 — Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri today announced that long-term pass holders from India, Indonesia and the Philippines will not be allowed into Malaysia due to a spike in Covid-19 cases in those countries.

He said the new restrictions will come into force Sept 7 and apply to permanent residents, Malaysia My Second Home pass holders, expatriates, spousal visa holders and foreign students.

“The decision was made following advice from the Health Ministry to ensure Covid-19 is contained in the country,” he said during his press briefing.

Ismail Sabri said the government would also monitor the situation in other countries and had not ruled out the possibility that the same restrictions might be imposed on citizens of other countries experiencing a spike in cases.

"Nothing has been finalised yet, but we are looking into other countries that may face a spike in Covid-19 cases," he said.

Ismail Sabri, however, stressed that Malaysians returning from the three countries will be allowed home and stipulated SOPs will apply.

“We cannot stop them from coming back as it goes against the Constitution. The Immigration Act also cannot prevent our citizens from returning.”

He said the Health Ministry would propose a plan to minimise the risk of foreign infections through returning Malaysians from these countries.

Yesterday, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the government is already looking four months ahead by preparing for a possible spike in Covid-19 infections due to the onset of winter in northern hemisphere countries.
He said although Malaysia's infection rate is now under control, developments in other countries, such as what happened in India, South Korea, Japan, Spain and France that saw an increase in cases during cold weather conditions, must be considered.

“So, our concern is that there will be an increase in cases during that period, and due to this, we have to make preparations,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama yesterday.

Case numbers are meaningless because hardly anyone is actually sick.

How about new Sinkies who were not too long ago Indian nationals?

Malaysia got the balls but PAP balls are being grabbed tightly by Modi so Sinkapore cannot suka suka ban these Nehs from returning back here. Yes many times we laugh at our neighbors up north due to their politicians and the nature of their politics but one thing for sure, sometimes they make better decisions for the sake of their citizens than the PAP Government.

If jiuhu gets their act together and sign CECA, jiuhu could prove to be a serious rival to Singapore. But currently, jiuhu seems to be going full retard on the false moslem religion. So Singapore is safe for at least a generation.

And singkieland plans to open to indons whose case numbers are huge

Indonesia hopes to have a reciprocal green lane with Singapore immediately: President Jokowi

JAKARTA: Indonesia hopes that there will be a reciprocal green lane for essential travel with Singapore immediately, said President Joko Widodo on Tuesday (Sep 1).
Speaking with journalists from the foreign media, Mr Widodo expressed hope that the green lane would be a boost to bilateral ties, specifically in the economic and business sectors.
“We know that Singapore is the largest investor in Indonesia,” Mr Widodo said at the presidential palace in Bogor.
In the first quarter of 2020, Singapore was Indonesia’s top foreign investor, with a total of US$2.7 billion in realised investments, according to data from the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board.
The president also said the green lane can pave the way for investments coming into Indonesia. He did not elaborate on the specifics of the arrangement.
Last week, it was announced that Singapore and Indonesia are set to begin discussions on a reciprocal green lane to allow essential travel to gradually resume.
"Given the strong business links between Singapore and Indonesia, the two foreign ministers tasked the officials to begin discussions on a 'reciprocal green lane' to allow for essential travel to gradually resume in a manner that would safeguard public health and safety in both countries," Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Currently, Singapore has reciprocal green lane arrangements with China, Malaysia and Brunei.
Indonesia has similar arrangements with China, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.
The leaders of Indonesia and Singapore are also expected to meet later this year during an annual leaders’ retreat. It is Indonesia’s turn to host the meeting this year.
When asked what would be at the top of the agenda, Jokowi, as the president is popularly known, said that are two main issues he would like to discuss during the retreat.
“Everything will revolve around the health and economic issues,” he said.

Southeast Asia’s largest economy has suffered from a contraction of 5.32 per cent in the second quarter of 2020, mainly due to social restrictions put in place to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Tuesday, Mr Widodo said he is aiming for better economic growth in the third quarter. He added that he hopes to see positive growth in the last quarter of the year.
He also expressed optimism that with more investments in the near future and a potential COVID-19 vaccine being developed, Indonesia’s economy would have positive growth next year.
