If anything he dabbled in superstitious practices by going to a renowned Buddhist monk to get his fortune read before making any major overseas trip. His dabbling in Catholic meditation in his final years was more a pragmatic move to prolong his life than a profession of a faith in something beyond this life.

And he was never educated in a Christian school. Studying law in Cambridge certainly didn't count as a Christian education.

Christians, as now, were a minority. If you read Samuel Huntington's The Clash of Civilizations, he attributed the rise of these Dragon economies (plus Japan) to their Confucianist culture which values education, filial piety, social propriety, hierarchy, hard work, and observance of one's duty to society above individual rights.

Christianity was never a factor in the meteoric rise of East Asian societies in the 2nd half of the 20th century. Next you'd be saying that communism was the reason why China is the world's 2nd largest economy today. Sheesh.

The separation of church and state had played a huge role in the development of liberty, commerce, science and the arts in Europe. And like you said, these have been achieved at the expense of the weakening of Christianity as a religion in Europe. Islam is filling the void in Europe by higher birth rates, mass influx of immigrants and refugees and simply by being tougher and fiercer. Christians today believe too much in turning the other cheek, while Islam has always been preaching a consistent message of slapping cheeks. We have to see which way is the right way.

Maybe Islam might win. So, I better make preparations to be their translator and grassroots volunteer when they proclaim their supermacy over your temples and churches. But I am also counting on Moslems getting sick of all the sectarian violence and giving up on Islam.

Buddhism is the biggest religion in Singapore, 33.3% or 1/3 of all Sinkies are Buddhists.

17% of the Sinkie population are atheists and fast growing, while 10.9% follow Taoism/Chinese traditional beliefs.

Christians of all denominations are only 18.3% of the Sinkie population.

There are a group of monks that went on to preserve their body. I cannot remember the reason, but it started as early as in the 13th or 14th century. My dates may be out because ot has been a long time since i read about it.
