Liang Eng Hwa speaks now, fires first salvo against the SDP team that is contesting Holland-Bukit Timah. In Singapore, MPs have dual role - they not only need to deal with national issues and debate policies in Parliament, they also have to address problems faced by residents on the ground, "even checking drains if need be". But SDP says MPs should not have to do this. "Then please move aside and let someone else do it."

SDP seems to be more interested in the "glamourous" side - delivering grand speeches at ralllies, he says. "We cannot have our MPs lazy to walk the ground and only interested in making speeches", he tells the crowd. "I also heard they just cycle through the estate", not sure if they walk through.
