NUS undergraduate Cassandra Lee, who is voting for the first time, sings the praises of Grace Fu for her caring attitude towards her constituents. She urges the audience to vote for the PAP.

"Daily needs need to be met by the right people. Times have changed. Policies that were up during the kampung days may not be suitable anymore... But there's no ten year series for Singapore.

No party can guarantee that residents needs can be met all the time. But history has proven that PAP's efforts have brought us the furthest."

Selamat Rakisan is the fourth activist to speak in Malay. Grace Fu is due to take the mic after the next speaker, Arthur Cheong.

"If we (the PAP) are bullies, why does the PAP bother to hold elections? Every constituency this time will be contested, and there is no sure-win situation," says Mr Cheong, hitting out at the opposition's assertions that PAP employed "bullying" tactics. ST PHOTOS: CAROLYN KHEW

Happening now: At PAP rally at Jurong East Stadium

Yuhua candidate Grace Fu takes the stage. She lists the developments in Yuhua that have taken place in the past nine years. "A place where there's hope, there's happiness and there's heart," she says.

"The social support system has improved. Our Pioneer Generation gets acknowledged and appreciated."

Happening now: At PAP rally at Jurong East Stadium

Grace Fu asserts that the PAP's policies might not be the most popular, but they work.

She pokes holes in the SDP's manifesto that champion for things like free healthcare and stress-free education, calling their values "fancy terms" modelled after Western values.

"There are three words for where their vision will lead us - spend, spend and spend."

Happening now: At PAP Sembawang GRC rally at Woodlands

Housing minister Khaw Boon Wan takes a bow as he is being introduced on stage alongside his fellow PAP candidates. The crowd breaks into song, singing "Sayang Sembawang". ST PHOTO: LYDIA LAM

..three bows ...wow!! a grand display of humility!!! and bow also so long....well done Mr Khaw and your Team for Sembawang!!!

wow!!! this is the party that look after you for the past 60 years!!!!!!!!!!

Liang Eng Hwa speaks now, fires first salvo against the SDP team that is contesting Holland-Bukit Timah. In Singapore, MPs have dual role - they not only need to deal with national issues and debate policies in Parliament, they also have to address problems faced by residents on the ground, "even checking drains if need be". But SDP says MPs should not have to do this. "Then please move aside and let someone else do it."

SDP seems to be more interested in the "glamourous" side - delivering grand speeches at ralllies, he says. "We cannot have our MPs lazy to walk the ground and only interested in making speeches", he tells the crowd. "I also heard they just cycle through the estate", not sure if they walk through. Happening now: PAP rally at Commonwealth Avenue

Liang Eng Hwa: "SDP wants to focus only on issues that can win votes, ignoring long-term challlenges Singapore is facing such as the ageing population and global economic environment. "For scolding the government for every little thing, they can win votes," he says.

He quotes a line from this year's NDP song: It isn't easy building something out of nothing. "I am not going to sing the song, I will leave it to Chee Soon Juan to sing it at his rally."

Happening now: At PAP rally at Jurong East Stadium

Chants of "Grace Fu, Grace Fu" go up in the crowd as Ms Fu asks: "How many of you have spoken to me? I have spent many hours talking to you.

"I understand the needs of Yuhua residents because I have been here nine years. I fight for your interests - Yuhua was the first to have sound barriers at MRT tracks," she says, adding that she has successfully balanced the need for new developments with the residents' concerns.

Happening now: Happening now at Jurong East Stadium

Grace Fu ends her English speech on a high note: "I don't disappear after elections, I don't show up just for a few handshakes. The future of Singapore is at stake - stand up for what you believe in.

"We cannot afford five years of trial and error. Please vote for me!"
