Just wish to add my comments to this thread:

There is no military threat to Singapore. Any country who declares war or attacks Peesai will be seen as a bully. Singapore has no natural resource like oil, or water. Singapore military just has to be maintained to be in tandem with the country's wealth. The army is a parade army, the airforce is to wow the kids (F-16s, F-15s enough, F-35 is totally senseless), navy, yes, to protect the sea lanes againsts pirates, and calamity rescue/humanitarian missions. A modern military makes a good career for military personnel. Military personnel should think like soldiers, always on the guard, and "siam" NDP duties. Life is good.

Where does it say that singapore military has to be maintained in tandem with the country's wealth? we don't even know what the country's wealth is because we are told it will take 50 man years to find that out. How then do you know what is in tandem in regards to military spending?

History has shown infiltration and sabotage are effective in creating internal chaos of any country.

In Vietnam war, the North infiltrated the South to create fear and chaos; eventually, the American could not tahan the loss of American lives and ran road.

Now, the ISIS uses the same strategy to filtrate Italy and other European countries which took in immigrants from the Middle East and the Mediterranean. The ISIS simply walked as immigrants and will wait for the day to whack the host countries.

Maybe the paps do not believe no other countries will infiltrate and sabotage sinkieland from within. If so, they are idiots.

It appears to me that according to you, the PAP are idiots then. After all they let in 2 million people into this country with no restrictions and monitoring of their movements. These 2 million include citizens of countries that are still officially communists, the same communists who were at one time our sworn enemies. Also included in this is 2 million number are citizens from the largest muslim country on earth and a known country that have islamic extremist cells like JI. The way the PAP screens the education qualifications of fake Talents working in the country do not give me great confidence in their ability to weed out trouble makers from this group.

If you are referring to the islands in the South China Sea, there are a couple of claimants, China happens to be the first to put that claim into action. What is stopping the others? Firstly, it is not wise to NOT have a military. So, if one were to have an armed force, have the best that one can afford. As an example, RSAF started off with Hunter Jets and BAC Strikemasters during the late sixties. There have been no threats or danger, but can you imagine expecting newly trained pilots to fly these "ancient" aircraft? That is a downer! Even the F-5s and Skyhawks look so outdated! How are these pilots going to impress the girls??? Same explanation for the naval vessels, Singapore sailors would look and feel like crap having to pilot the old "Fast" Patrol Boats. In this respect, I dare say the F-35 is unnecessary as there is no need to penetrate enemy airspace and a good dogfighter is all Sg needs. But Peesai has the money, and someone I spoke to told me for the decision maker, being able to buy the more expensive model is better (for kickbacks?).

Pappies treated sinkies like shit, would the next Govt if run by oppo parties treat sinkies better? Hard to tell but there is a chance the next Govt might not want to repeat mistakes made by pappies.

Defending the island is the responsibility of all local sinkies, don't count on imported shitizens and foreigners in the volunteer corp to defend the island. They would probably flee when crisis erupted. If local sinkies refuse to defend their own country, who will?

USA? UK? If they could defend Ukraine, they would have done so long ago. Be realistic. Sinkies cannot count on outside help to defend itself against external aggression. Whether you like it or not, the fate of all local sinkies is sealed with the island.
