Why we call Malaysians Jiu Hu Kias?

Malaysia translate into Hokkien is Jiu Hu? izzit?

I know my grandma last time refers to Thais as Xiang Lor Kias...understandably Siam translated into teochew is Xiang Lor.

But Malaysia translated to hokkien become Jiu Hu seems a bit far fetch...:confused:
 
it's the highest honour bestowed to the flip-flop m&d that has his soft-rice meal ticket working in orchard towers :cool:

the ample supplies of sotongs around the east coast probably gave it it's name - most of them are sold without the heads...:p

it is a favourite for those that has a penchant for "soft-rice" until they wise up to be a man and do the right thing.
also, chinchalok = udang grago, hence to describe those that dance to the jingli-nona ;)
 
Jiu Hu is hokkien for Johore.

Johor Baru was called 新山, "jiu hu"..doesn't that mean "Federation"?...we became independent from England in 1963 & joined the Federation...right? & then Federation of Malaysia..

i think po2wq explanation more phonetically plausible...
 
I thought Jiu Hu was the hokkien pronunciation of Johor. You do hear Singaporeans say " kia, ki Jiu Hu", when they want to go JB.

I have an even more logical explanation why we call the Malaysian Jiu Hu Kia. Back then say the 80s and 90s, most of the Malaysians working in Singapore hailed from Johor.
