Have a problem with Win 7 not connecting to the internet

before you reinstall maybe you can try one more thing. try to remove your antivirus, firewall or malware blocker may be causing the web browsers to be unusable.

Uninstalled AVG & it didn't help.

If you need to re-install the windows, make sure you know how to retain all your old programs and users parameters so that you can restore back the computer to exactly where it was before so that you don't have to copy everything all over again..

I kena once before having to re-install the windows because there was a virus that immobilize the network card. I could not even reset and re-install the network driver etc.. IPconfig came out nothing, nearly certified a dead network card.

Don't forget to backup all your data too. Sometimes they are found in obscure places e.g. chat logs. Browser bookmarks too.

You can't blame them, a lot of the new machines are pre-installed with Windows 8. Those units on display at stores are also installed with Windows 8.

I think you should wipe everything clean. Otherwise there might be viruses and trojan hidden in your machine!!

Starting a fresh is usually good!!

Fresh air and a new beginning!! hehe..

Thanks.
Got in as an administrator & did the reset to the winsock. Unfortunately it didn't fix the problem:(

Looks like I'll have to re-install windows. This will give me a chance to do some spring cleaning & get rid of the clutter.

A fresh installation after a good three to four years use is a good idea. I do it myself, because it clears the system of unwanted files, registry entries, etc. And speeds up the system again. A good practice is to store data files on a separate drive, so they are not affected by system file installation. After you have installed your OS and your programs, back up by creating a system image (bootable CDs). The next time, just restore this if you need a clean start.

just disable the anti virus.

goto the network setup and roll back the drivers again.

reboot and try.

the problem lies with many pple like you...:( not your PC.:p

After years of use my Win 7 is having problems :(

All of a sudden my web browser can't connect to the internet. After a long delay, the browser window will pop up & give a "Server not found" message". I've checked my widgets & they sometimes work e.g. the exchange rate info & weather info are updating. Tried to use a torrent application & it seems ok. Just having problems with the browser. Tried using different browsers: Firefox, IE & Google Chrome. They are all having problems.

Other than re-installing everything again. Anyone have any suggestions:confused:

Win 8 and Win 8.1 are market flops... development for Win 9 is already underway. Beta (developer preview?) will be released next year.

You do not need to put up with a stupid interface. Install Classic Shell to restore sanity to the UI.

I chose to install a new fully activate win 8.1 pro that i got for free.

and an Iphone & iPad.:)

wait for the mac os "yosemite" release and ios 8 release this coming fall, and buy all 3 platforms: macbook air, ipad air, iphone sex, oops i mean six. that way, you get tech support at the store for at least 1 hour to help you set up and integrate content and apps seamlessly among all 3 platforms. otherwise, you're on your own or you die your biz is the apple mantra. :p

Unlike with windows I've never had any problems with the Mac OS. When I had an iBook it lasted 7 years. In all that time I never had to re-install the OS. I did do OS upgrades but never had problems like corrupted system files.

Hoping that Yosemite makes it easier to transfer files between the iPad & Macbook & iPhone. I'm also eagerly waiting to see what those iwatches can do. Hoping that companies like Omron make it easier to port the data from their blood pressure monitors to Apples health apps.

Have used Windows & the Mac for years. Was even considering getting certified as a MCSE(Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) because at one time I was doing SW support. However the problem with Microsoft products is that you have to relearn everything when they have new versions of their software & few companies in Spore are willing to give you time to upgrade.

johnny perhaps you could ghost your system. I use acronis to ghost after a certain period of time. So if there is a problem i just wipe my hdd clean and just reload the ghosted image of my last working OS system and everything is exactly the same.

On a daily basis I'm getting all sorts of bogus emails from Paypal, Ebay, IRS, etc I ignore these emails because you never know if the site they take you to has viruses, trojans,...

I use 2 computers. One for serious work e.g. banking, trading,... & another for more risky activities like surfing.

I'll have to look at making a boot disk. Shouldn't be a problem fitting the files into one CD

I don't have alot of files on my home PC. Just have a browser & some apps to view files. So I can just reformat & re-install. I currently only have an SSD drive connected to my PC. The only important data are the bookmarks for the sites I frequent.

The main reason I still use the PC is because it has a large monitor & speakers

That's why I think the problem is with windows 7.

Have verified that the network is OK, because the Macbook I am using has no problems with the same connection. The torrent application(Tixati) which is on the same PC is running fine because it is a non-windows application.

Looks like I'll have to reinstall everything. What a pain.

Why are you still using WINDOWS based machine?? I have phased out WINDOWS OS from my household, except one Acer notebook computer, everybody else is either using Macbook pro or Air, iPhone & iPad. I have even junked my router for a 1Tb Airport Time Capsule.

I have so much problems with Win OS & Win OS machine... I HAD ENOUGH!
