Outside a new childcare centre in Punggol, a huge line of parents stretched out from the day before registrations first opened.

The new childcare centre is located at Block 614A Edgefield Plains in Punggol, a new estate where many young couples with young children live.

The demand for childcare centres in this estate are high and EtonHouse International, the firm in charge of the provision of several new childcare centres in the heartlands was urged to review its registration process.

Registrations for its newest childcare centre opened at 9am on Saturday but some parents, who were desperate to get their children enrolled, started queuing up from 10am the day before.

By 11pm, over 130 parents had lined up and the queue stretched out for several metres down the covered walkways.

Those queuing up had brought chairs, water, snack and even extension cords to charge their phones so that they could use them while they waited.
EtonHouse and its subsidiary, E-Bridge, are just some of the childcare providers that get priority to make childcare centres in the heartlands on the condition that prices are kept low.

I cant help but say this, Singkies is are such a pathetic lot when they have to queue overnight just to get a childcare spot,,there should be enough childcare spots for all kids who want it. Childcare now even not enough,,sad,,very sad,,,and to think Ho Jinx invested in Oz childcare that went bankrupt..

This is only for childcare. At that level does it really affect a child's school career

Heard that if neither parents attended one of the elite schools, they can volunteer their time to increase the chances of their children getting accepted into these schools.
I think it is better for parents to emigrate rather than putting kids through the Spore school system. In places like Canada you can enter Uni with GCE 0 results. Doing their Grade 13 is a piece of cake & takes only 1 year to accomplish, this is much easier than doing GCE 0 & A levels.

i started a bogus queue at a utility door in an orchard mall, and sinkies actually queued up behind me. after 10 minutes i apologetically told them i was just playing punk. :*: and the look on their faces! precious!

The place is under Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC not PE.

Maybe by 2016 Punggol area will become a GRC on its own as the population is growing. Not surprised that the GRC will fall into opposition hands. Too many problems like poor transport, poor facilities, limbo LRT line, broken P21 promises and now childcare.
