Choosing a fax machine

I have an old Canon fax(B155) machine but I heard complaints from people receiving faxes from me that the detail are not clear.
Is this a problem with my fax machine:confused:

I only need a fax machine 1 to 2 times a year. If I replace my current fax machine would it make sense to get one of those combo units that is a fax, scanner. printer,...
Any recommendation on brands.

I already have a Canon Canoscan 8600F scanner & HP laser printer but the price of those combo units are quite cheap & it would reduce the clutter on my desktop. Or do you think it would be better to just get a new fax machine without the extra scanner, printer,.....

I had the same set, same problem: sent faxes started getting blurry after 3 years. Apparently you have to clean the insides regularly, and I was told to sign a servicing contract with the Canon agent.

I ditched the set, and bought a Brother Fax-878. Compact, small footprint, thermal transfer rolls. No problem now.

Why do people still fax these days? I thought people now scan the document and email the document to the person.

For business use, invest in an all-in-one machine. Photocopy, fax, scan, print.

There are several prominent Japanese companies that offer various solutions for your needs.

In fact, there are some printers that you can email the scanned document directly from the printer, without using a computer. So you just press the scan button and then enter the email address of the recipient in the printer. No computer or paper needed.

There is also such a thing as efax...they can fax it to u and it goes straight to yr PC,,,,and vice versa. But scanners are the way forward.

I didn't know about the cleaning part. If I had I wouldn't have bought a Canon:(

How long have you owned a Brother 878 ?

Yes you still have to use fax especially when you are dealing with some banks because they need a signature when you send them instructions.

In the past I would get separate hardware to do all these functions. However nowadays it's very affordable to get these all in one units.
In the digital age ALL households need a scanner, printer & to a lesser extent a fax machine.

If I was dealing with a local bank it would be easier to just go personally down to the branch & sort it out.

The use of a fax is when I'm dealing with the US. Such as dealing with my US broker or sending a copy of my credit card to a merchant in the US. I usually send the faxes in the middle of the night when most people in Spore are sleeping. Fax machines are cheap enough that I'm willing to invest the $ for long term use.

Damn! Yesterday we had a customer send in an inquiry - by fax!!! Now, gotta type and print out a hardcopy and reply by fax. It's so hard to go back to an older technology (everything we do here now is by email). I remember when I started working and fax was a new thing and I was so amazed by it, now it looks so ancient! Well, for that matter b back then, smoking was permitted in some offices too!

Cheers!

I use a fax modem with my Mac. Just type out document in Microsoft Word and fax electronically to customer's fax machine. Don't need to print out hard copy.

You got to understand that fax is easier especially when you need to send them copies of product literature. Not everyone has that info in a pdf file. Even if they did most customers wouldn't know how to open a pdf file:o

The trend is the 4-in-1 combo printer, scanner, photocopier and fax. It is also inexpensive. I would recommend the 4-in-1 combo.

With regards to the US bank, if you are dealing with a specific person, you can ask him if you can email him a scanned document with your signature instead of faxing. I see no reason why he would say 'no' to that..
