Police on Saturday arrested a 32 year-old Singaporean in connection with the vandalism of the Cenotaph war memorial at the Esplanade Park.

The suspect was nabbed by Central Police Division officers at about 11.30am, in a Handy Road building just three days after the incident was reported, said the police.

"Extensive investigations and round the clock enquiries were conducted," said the spokesman. "Among the exhibits seized are a long-sleeved T-shirt, a pair of denim jeans, a pair of shoes, a 'tote' bag, and a pair of headphones for investigation."

The case was first reported on April 24 at 7.17am, by a member of public who saw that the war monument was found sprayed with graffiti.

Stupid poodles. Didn't manage to find his spray can of paint? going to forensic analyse his undies for traces of paint? pathetic

Cenotaph - what the fuck is this seems like I failed my civics

See, this is the case of 'want or don't want'..

If they can go to extra length to find this chap, then they're also able to nab the numerous Ah Long runners terrorising the HDB estates around the island..

This case was given the full publicity as the crime happened to a historic monument..

Like it or not, these lazy Poodles got to work extra to nab the suspect.. Same as what happened to Joanne Peh who made a big fuss on the media when her car was vandalised by the loan sharks sometime back..

It is built along Queen Elezabeth Walk ( the previous name) then known as Esplanade, The Cenotaph is to commemorate those who died during WWI..it says "OUR GLORIOUS DEAD", near there is Lim Bo Seng Memorial...it seems that people of your generation knows little of the past, but only HIS STORY & the world evolve from or around PAP...:p

ahhh!! nobody asked.."GUESS WHAT RACE"??

Orrrrrr that To Our Glorious Dead monument this I know cos dad used to bring us there he called it gor-zhang-chew-kah that was like 42 years ago. Never know this monument hss such a name.

Talking cock, imo. Round the clock enquries? From whom? Police cannot be aware who were the people around the area before 7.17am. How to make enquiries that way? Extensive investigations? How?

oh memorial of those losers, who surrender at the very sight of the japanese, and starved to death in POW camp and force march and murder by the japanese.

The memorial should shape like a chicken.

attack force need to outnumber defender 3 to 1, those loser out number the attackers 2 to 1 and still surrender.

How complicated can this police work really be?

Just take all the cctv footages of all the possible routes the fucker could have taken to commit his vandalism and the possible routes of escape, you w.l have a 90% chance of nabbing him...review all footages one hour belre and after the police report was made , you will see wtf has been behaving suspiciously.....

To commit the perfect crime, you can never let the stupid police find out wtf you came from and how you left the scene of crime......

Once the crime was reported, the Commissioner of Police might well have gotten a call from a senior Cabinet minister to throw in all resources to nab the suspect. The case is too high profile and too embarrassing at a national level to be left unresolved. Same with the MRT depot vandalism case.

And it happened just a day before ANZAC Day.

seriously man, what the hell has WW1 got to do with us Asians!? It was a war fought among the imperialist whiteys.

The brits just erected that ugly piece of shit to celebrate their own kind, in a land that does not belongs to them and half the world away from their bloody motherland, but conveniently abandoned Singapore to the Japanese without even trying any harder

I say, to hell with the cenotaph; it is nothing but a symbol of colonialism and imperialism. It should have been shredded to pieces long time ago to make way for something more use (since the fuckin PAP has the habit of tearing down old historical structures for glitzy skyscrapers) :oIo:

As has been pointed out in another thread, the Cenotaph started out as a monument to the dead in WW1 but was extended to commemorate the military dead in WW2. The main commemoration is however at the Commonwealth cemetery in Kranji.

Many Asians were involved in Europe during WW1, either as combatants (Gurkhas, Sikhs and Indians for the British, the Foreign Legion, Turks, etc.) and service providers (Chinese.)

And many Australian and NZ soldiers did die defending this part of the world against the Japanese, and their deaths are worth commemorating.
