STOMPer deepsecret's fiancé had chased after a man in a hoodie who was vandalising the Cenotaph at Esplanade Park on Apr 23. A Police spokesperson said that efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice will not be spared.
The Cenotaph is a war memorial that was built in memory of men in Singapore who gave their lives in World War I and World War II.
Said the STOMPer:
"On 23 April 2013 at about 2315hrs, my fiancé and I witnessed a man vandalizing this monument.
"He was with his headphones, in a dark blue hoodie, dark jeans and shoes along with a brown/black backpack.
"My fiancé chased after him. He then mentioned somehow in fear, "Oh its revolution".
"I uploaded this pic into my facebook right after."
STOMPer Weatherboat alerted the Police after noticing that the same Cenotaph at Connaught Drive had been vandalised.
Weatherboat said:
"I have made a police report.
"Hopefully, the culprits are caught."
Joey Lim also captured a photo of the vandalism being removed from the memorial and posted a photo on her Facebook page.
In an email to STOMP, a Police spokesperson said:
"In response to media queries, Police confirm that a call was received on 24 April 2013 at about 7.17am that a war memorial monument (Cenotaph) at the Esplanade Park had been sprayed with graffiti.
"Investigations are ongoing.
"Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Daniel Tan said:
"'Spraying and defacing a war memorial is a totally disrespectful and despicable act. Police will spare no resources to bring the perpetrators to justice.'"
