Hongkongers Got Balls

There is no need to get carried over by the girl's action. We think she's brave? She is not brave. She is just a normal young Hongkonger. All Hongkongers are like her, Hingkongers exercising their rights, so there is nothing special about her actions.

Lets not forget Hong Kong's politicians both the rulers and the oppositions. They are the really brave ones who have the balls to allow real free speech, freedom of expression and peaceful protests. Unlike our balless cowards in the ruling party, these Hong Kong politicians do not hide behind oppressive laws disguised as "protectors for the people".

Unlike our balless cowards in the ruling party, Hong Kong politicians do not hide behind GRCs disguised to be fair to all races.

Unlike our balless cowards in the ruling party, Hong Kong politicians do not hide behind policies like CPF and Medisaves disguised as retirement funds that we can never get back and medical insurance that's never enough to pay for medical services.

Unlike our balless cowards in the ruling party, Hong Kong politicians do not hide behind foreign mercenaries for protection.

Coming back to that girl that started this discussion, so she is just a normal girl exercising her rights, that really tells a lot about we oppressed sinkies whose rights we had prostituted away every election to our oppressors.

Hongkies cannot elect their own leader directly. the electoral system are designed in a way that the Pro-Beijing people representatives will always get a majority in the legislative. those Pro-Beijing legislators are also ball-less cowards hiding behind their version of GRC system.

Hongkies should demonstrate against their unfair electoral system too.

Why don't these Hongkies with balls take a bus or flight and demonstrate at Beijing where the real decisions are made?

You think they are stupid?

Truly I just wonder how the soldiers who fired on their own citizens and killed them may be feeling today?

I am sure many has gone insane or may have committed suicide for the drastic action they undertook just to protect the chiefs.

These is supposed to be the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and not some People's Liquidation Apparatus (PLA)

The Phillippines Army and Police did a better job by protecting the people prior to the fleeing of Marcos instead of killing the very people they are suppose to protect.

Until today the Communists Chiefs condemns the Nanking Massacre. How on Eart could they do this to their own kids.

These innocent people are also the kids of some other people and they were merely wanting a better lives for themselves.

Today the people of China respect the late Hu Yaobang and Zhao Zhiyang.

Li Peng had been consigned to the dustbin for having told Deng lies that the peaceful students were hostile thereby letting to the massacre.

after the Tiananmen Massacre, a old professor ( a Beiping University graduate ) told his descendants: "in the past, we Beiping University students every day, had four dishes and one soup to eat. we were well-fed. after our meals, we would join the Communist Underground Party to protest against "Hunger, Civil War and Anti-persecution." the Kuomintang never used guns to shoot at us. now when I think back, it makes me feel ashamed."

Dude you left out the subsections (2) and (3) of Article 14 and a few other Acts.

http://singaporerebel.blogspot.sg/2009/11/3-tiers-of-censorship-in-singapore.html

Article 14 of the Constitution of Singapore provides that:

(a) every citizen of Singapore has the right to freedom of speech and expression;

(b) all citizens of Singapore have the right to assemble peaceably and without arms; and

(c) all citizens of Singapore have the right to form associations.

As of March 2012, there are 167 countries that are parties to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Only 18, mostly THIRD WORLD countries, have neither signed nor ratified this Covenant. These are Antigua & Barbuda, Bhutan, Brunei, Burma, Fiji, Kiribati, MALAYSIA, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Omar, Qatar, St. Kitts & Nevis, Saudi Arabia, SINGAPORE, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and United Arab Emirates.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Covenant_on_Civil_and_Political_Righ ts

The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights has 160 parties as of October 2012. Only 25, again mostly THIRD WORLD countries, have neither signed nor ratified this Covenant. Singapore shares this “honour” together with most of the 18 countries mentioned above plus Andorra, Botswana, Fiji, Haiti, Mozambique, Nauru, Samoa, St. Lucia and Vanuatu.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Covenant_on_Economic,_Social_and_Cul tural_Rights

Switzerland, along with other FIRST WORLD countries, is a signatory to both Covenants. This video shows a Swiss protest - 20,000 strong. My question to Minister Ignoramus Goh Chok Tong is this: after collecting OUT OF THIS WORLD ministerial salaries for years, what have you and your PAP cronies done to bring Singapore to a SWISS standard of living as your Party has promised – from the tangible as well intangible perspective? Those were EMPTY promises?

Grave difference is ISA

Abolishing ISA is the utmost important task. Till then protest and strike is playing into the open arms of ISD.

That's what it's there for.

Actually, Malaysia also has ISA, but it did not stop the massive Bersih rallies from happening. All of the participants at Bersih like the ones in this video, including "observers" from the Singapore High Commission, knew they were attending what under Malaysian's equally unjust laws is an illegal assembly.

Sympathy Bersih rallies were held in front of Malaysian embassies worldwide. Except for the one in Singapore, those did not break any laws of the countries in which they occured. Singapore too has embassies in those places.

Why did TCH not arrest those Malaysian protestors for their sympathy rally in Singapore? It is a picnic and not an illegal assembly? Whereas four men taking a leisurely walk is an illegal assembly? If so, what bird brain logic is TCH trying to propagate?

Malaysia also has ISA but the people are more vocal and brave than Singapore.

The grave difference is the quality of Opposition in both countries.

While Malaysia’s Opposition are very vocal and brave inside and outside parliament so that the people can learn and follow them, Singapore’s Opposition under Vichy WP has always been timid and obedient inside and outside parliament so that the people can also learn and follow them.

Becos of Malaysia's Opposition, ISA was abolished. Becos of Singapore's Vichy WP, ISA remains.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak had formally announced that his Government would repeal the Internal Security Act in Malaysia.

Within 48 hours of the repeal announcement, however, socio-political bloggers driven by The Online Citizen uncovered the fact that in 1991 Lee Hsien Loong (now Singapore's PM) stated that the government would 'seriously consider' abolishing the ISA if Malaysia did so.

Under the new Security Offences law, police can detain a person for 24 hours for investigation.

However, his next-of-kin should be notified immediately of his arrest; he can have access to a lawyer within 48 hours; after the first 24-hour period a police officer of the rank of superintendent or above can extend the detention period to up to 28 days after which the person must be charged or released; and during the period of detention he can go to court to file a writ of habeas corpus seeking his release.

Its different. Ours is detention without trail.

Well bro, theoretically you are correct, unfortunately your thinking is too extreme.

Nobody says that there total welfare state is good for Singapore or HK. Neither should it be the case that they Govt tax the rich fully to the extend that nobody is willing to work.

However it is the Govt's obligation, both politically and morally, to help the poor and is ensure a certain extend of income equality. By helping the poor, they have to tax the rich.

Of course, they have to balance between really helping those in need vs a giving out welfare indiscriminately.
