West Coast GRC MP Foo Mee Har has resigned from her position as a senior banker at Standard Chartered after 19 years to spend more time on her constituency duties in Ayer Rajah.
Ms Foo, who is currently the global head of priority and international banking, will take on a non-executive role at the bank at the start of next year.
The move was first announced by Ms Foo on her Facebook page, and was confirmed by Standard Chartered.
Ms Foo wrote: “It has been an exciting and fulfilling journey with the bank, which has taken me across many functions, many businesses, and many countries. There is no better time to do this - the businesses are doing well, and strong teams are in place across the network.”
She told Singapolitics that her “most immediate plan, is to spend more time with the Ayer Rajah constituents on exciting projects”.
She added that she is also considering other options that will make use of her corporate experience and allow her to fulfil her role as an MP.
Ms Foo joined Stanchart in 1994 and rose to hold senior roles in China and Thailand.
She entered politics last year, standing for election in the West Coast GRC with the People’s Action Party.
A Stanchart spokesman said: “Mee Har has played a key role in the leadership team of the bank’s consumer banking business and we wish her every success in her future endeavours.
“We are delighted that Mee Har will remain connected to the bank in Asia and has agreed to take on a non-executive role in the bank.”
