One tends to forget how expensive Spore is until you leave the red dot & visit our neighbouring countries:o

It's been 5 years since I last visited Pattaya. How things have changed.
There now plenty of Indian, Russian, Chinese, Taiwanese, tourists..... You can't go to "Walking Street" without bumping into the many taiwaness tour groups. There are now many taxis on the roads in Pattaya where previously motor cycles used to dominate. I even see russians manning the booths offering travel services:eek: You also see them running real estate businesses.

There's also many new malls offering the same food courts & branded goods that you find in Bangkok.
Sad to say the beer bars that Pattaya is famous for is on the way out, or at least being marginalised, making way for condo developments.
So if are interested in beer bars better visit Pattaya ASAP before they disappear.

Visiting the malls in Pattaya you often see many, many property developers selling condos, homes,.... I was curious about the prices of properties with a sea view. In Spore the only properties with a sea view are those on Sentosa which you have to pay $$$,$$$$... What I found out that condos WITH a sea view start at SIN$60,000:eek: The units come fully furnished:eek: So you don't have to spend $$$ on renovation.

I'm not a rich man & I can't even afford a car in Spore. However I can afford a $60,000 condo with a sea view:biggrin: You can't even buy a car in Spore for that price. In Pattaya you can of course pay more than SIN$60,000 if you want a larger unit, nicer location, etc. I'm also thinking at the possibility of initially renting out the unit, since it's easier to do in LOS because the management will look after the unit if you are an absentee landlord. Pattaya is also a good choice because it was not affected by last years floods, has a few hospitals, english friendly,....

With the way things are going in Spore there are better & cheaper alternatives available out there if you only have "little money".

i think the biggest expense will be the kids as they will be attending private schools. thb 100k per month or sgd 4k should be very comfortable enough. honestly, this is on the high side. locals will probably survive on 20k/mth including transport.

Wow, 60K for a sea view condo is really cheap!

Good for vacation or retirement home, just relax and laze by the beach all day.

Any issue with visa for long term stay there?

Sorry but the visit to LOS was very last minute. I was even afraid that I was coming down with flu & so waited until the last minute to book a ticket.

Now that I am in LOS I have no regrets about visiting:smile:
I notice that many hotels big & small are offering FREE Wifi unfortunately I didn't bring a computer with me, but who has time to surf when one is in Pattaya:biggrin:

Correction. You can't even buy a small capacity budget car's COE.

For housing I think Thailand is one of the few places where you can still get cheap sea view living because they don't discriminate against foreigners. Unlike in Malaysia where foreigners are only permitted to buy homes that are above RM$500,000.

If the PAP are ever kicked out there may be a severe property correction?

Sporeans are allowed to stay in LOS for 60 days. You can then make use of the VISA runs, a short trip to Malaysia, Cambodia,...& then re-enter LOS to qualify for another 60 days.

If you want to stay longer there are a few options:
You can apply for a student visa, to study Thai. I think that such a visa allows you to study for 10 years, but the Thai authorities may test your language skills from time to time, to make sure that you are actually attending classes:biggrin:
If you are 50+ you can apply to stay in LOS under the retirement scheme. Under this scheme you will have to show that each year you have $50,000 in the bank account
