it's also a time to get acquainted with fellow passengers and make new friendships. some of my most intellectual and world savvy friends are from long cruises. there's much to learn from them. one was a ww2 british veteran who fought in north africa, was left in the middle east to hunt down nazi spies, became an mi agent after the war, recruited spies from former foes, worked in universities and british councils across the region, returned to england as subject matter expert in arab affairs, emigrated to canada, and is now living in alberta province with his canadian wife. oxford university offered him a tenure position the last time we spoke. but he's approaching 90, like old man harry. i think they want to suck the remaining juices out of him for a book.

if i go to this cruise , it is to spend time with my hubby...

Yes but only as a last option, you're still young as you've said so yourself, so we would all like you to try the natural way & let's break some bedsprings tryin'

yes..gynae advised that natural conception is best...so he is treating me and I see him monthly for check-ups and follow-ups

doesn't matter if Royal Caribb or Queen Mary or HRH private yacht cruise, food poisoning is actually quite common sailing the 7 seas! they have tiny kitchens to make food for hundreds, probability for culinary & tummy disaster is High!! take charcoal tabs with you if you want to avoid "kena sai"

good advice...always travel with medical box

Not sure whether they adopt the same for cruises in Asia, as the people here tend to regard everything as within the package. So the more you pay, the better restaurants you are entitled to, otherwise you pay extra. But there is also the need for spreading the dining crowd. Setting entitlement based on cabin type or class (pure semantics really, just to be politically correct) will achieve this effect.

i think star cruise and RC operate quite similarly...maybe the dining option defers

for many routes except alaska, hawaii, mexico, panama and the caribbean, there are fewer americans these days. it depends on the season, discounts and economy. for asian routes, there may be more aussies and kiwis as their exchange rates, and thus spending power, are strong. moreover, cruises tend to favor those who have retired and have either good pensions or adequate retirement funds. americans, except union retirees with hefty pensions, are losing out due to depleted savings and the need to go back to work or get a 2nd job. those with school-going kids are too busy anyway with both work and childcare to take any cruises from october to december. it's a lull period. cruise prices should be a bargain. i'm offered 70% off from san fran to the south pacific from my usual cruiseliner.

any cruise with too many bumpkin asians on board, especially sinkies, chinkies, hongkies is a no-no for me. it's not a holiday cruise anymore where you can relax and enjoy. it's a nightmare cruise where one is constantly bombarded with whining, complaining, littering, arguing, spitting, clearing of throats, queue jumping, privacy encroachment, etc. yucks! simply disgusting. moreover, i learn nothing, am impress with no one and cannot connect on an intellectual level. i'd rather jump overboard.

i defer from you. I will not allow strangers to affect my well being. why let others run your life? you sound like a loser. Stand up and run your own life.

Bro GD, i got funny story to tell, my friend & his family went on a Atas holiday in Europe & the father packed his suitcase full of canned food, instant noodles, tea bags, biscuits, snacks & when the custom guy saw him carry this super heavy suitcase.. of course kena pulled over for spot check, they were so astonished by the amount of food, they asked him, why you don't like our French food? then they confiscated it all, even the bottle of chilli sauce which the father pleaded, No, no not the chilli sauce! my friend told me he was so damn embarrassed that he "disowned" his father right there & than, i don't know who this man is ahahaha.

Embarrassing!!!:o

only on asian-run cruises. mainstream cruises which have routes around the world, and of which the sg to shanghai or sg to beijing segment is a tiny part of the world itinerary, do not practise class differentiation. passengers, who are repeat customers or have chalked up days at sea, length of cruise, or number of cruises, are given different levels of membership status. a platinum member who has sailed over 10 times or 150 days, for example, may get special benefits and privileges not typically accorded to a 1st-time passenger. a black pass member, who typically has sailed over 15 cruises or 200 days, for example, may have an inside cabin, but is still treated like a vip. all gold members and above are typically invited to the captain's lounge. 1st timers can jump overboard. :p

good insights..thanks

It must suck to be mistaken as one of them since you know you are a sinkie chinese. Did you get pissed off when the non asians thought u were like that or the hongkies or sinkies obviously thought you were one of them. Well you are one of them in a sense.

does he sound like a refined person to you?

when they are around you and in your way, you have no where to go on a ship except jump overboard. they don't run my life, but they ruin other's hard earned holiday.

The Caribbean cruises back in 2005/6 before the shit hit the fan was full of Yanks, not sure about now, i've done my share of cruises & probably won't do anymore.

again i don't know, last Asian cruise i did was in the 1980s those days it wasn't PRCs but local Towkays from Singapore & KL, cow-bay-cow-bu with each other, even talkcock also so damn loud, once bar opens for drinks they cheong, not shy to ask for double or triple scotch one after another, the more drunk they got the worst they became!

Barbados, Grenada, St.Vincent, Antigua, St. Lucia, St. Kitts. BVI. it did not go to Jamaica but on another trip i sailed from Belize, Cayman, Jamaica, Turks & Caicos all the way up to Florida. That was 10 times better than any cruise but alas my sailing days are over:(
