it's also a time to get acquainted with fellow passengers and make new friendships. some of my most intellectual and world savvy friends are from long cruises. there's much to learn from them. one was a ww2 british veteran who fought in north africa, was left in the middle east to hunt down nazi spies, became an mi agent after the war, recruited spies from former foes, worked in universities and british councils across the region, returned to england as subject matter expert in arab affairs, emigrated to canada, and is now living in alberta province with his canadian wife. oxford university offered him a tenure position the last time we spoke. but he's approaching 90, like old man harry. i think they want to suck the remaining juices out of him for a book.
if i go to this cruise , it is to spend time with my hubby...
