and these maids serve who??

Ministry of Manpower, 202,500 say $250 ( for example) a month, it is a cool, $50,625,000 a month and 607,500,000 a year & that is for the maids, never mind the construction, marine workers & others!!

That is why Min of Manpower can afford a $500+ designers chairs for the bottoms, you work your head off, blood, sweat & tears to pay for those chairs & more. They are getting a new building near to Geylang Bahru, sure it will be hacing state of the art, this & that....more bang for your bucks!!

I thought some years back the Pinays figures was 200,000+ now 70,000? this figures was given when the MOM organize a Christmas party at the spot what ION is at the moment, it had been reduced that much? or the total maids population??

pinay maids went up the global food chain in affordability some years back. indon numbers started climbing instead. however, on may 1, indonesia made labor policy changes, and indon recruiters started to make less in placement fees and wanted sg agencies to make up for the loss or difference. sg agencies turned to sri lanka. myanmar was an alternate source, but recent policies prevented burmese women from working overseas as domestic servants unless they were hired directly by household employers. with no money for recruiters and agencies in the middle, that source dried up quickly. it's about regional supply and demand, and affected by labor policies enacted by countries. obviously, it's a thriving industry in sg as sg is a massive net hirer, and not only mom makes money but also numerous agencies involved in the modern "near-slavery" trade.

This trade is akin to slavery.
I know some pigs with three generations in a house who made the maid do everything from taking care of the elders, to cooking and washing to cleaning all their cars. And she get hammered if something done not right. Nowhere to go for grievances.

Whomever outside SINgapore make money from their own kind, that is not our worry or concern, but MOM making money from us & flaunting their wealth, that is our concern, for we have to productive, must upgrade, upsize up their salaries...from our blood sweat & tears wages.

Sinkies suffering? From an outsider's preception....

frequently see Lambos, Maseratis, Ducatis. Harleys on the roads. Expensive restaurants fully occupied at lunch/dinners (on weekdays too!). Holiday packages - got to book months in advance!!!! Kids all have their own smart phones. Even loitering street bums don designer Addidas and Nikes!!! Sinkies are not suffering, they're living it up!

Cheers!

besides mom, there are numerous sg private agencies which help propel this into a thriving industry. most importantly, we should ask root cause questions. who are the end clients and why is there a demand? folks are well off here in cal, many have busy schedules, many have kids to raise, we drive engines of innovations and inventions that change the world, yet we don't hire maids. not even when they can be had cheap from mexico or latin america. moreover, they are more chio and fit too. and they speak two languages.

See what I mean, opposition supporters? You're fighting an uphill battle against the conspicuous displays of wealth in this tiny tax haven. The 60% are easily beguiled by the glitter of a rent-seeking, parasitic economy. How are you gonna convince them that Singapore is crumbling under the mismanagement of the PAPzis when all they hear are the throttle sounds of Lamborghinis and Ferraris?

perhaps you'd like to check how many maids per household the folks from the coats of MIW engage?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Good question. I know one family who has 4 maids. I know another family that hire a maid, but make her work in their restaurant business. The number of maids therefore do not reflect anything.

as of today, july 8, 2012 there are a total of 940 employment agencies in sg which are licensed to offer foreign domestic worker (fdw) services. mom has a directory search of these local agencies but does not list all of them in one go. in order to retrieve the full list, the searcher has to start with "a" and finish with "z". for the benefit of all, i did a search from a to z, selecting only the fdw category, and all districts. the list is too long and cannot be posted here. but here's the summary:

starting with:
a - 101, b - 37, c - 47, d - 23, e - 48, f - 30, g - 43, h - 53, i - 31, j - 62, k - 17, l - 34, m - 70, n - 26, o - 13, p - 44, q - 5, r - 40, s - 108, t - 41, u - 18, v - 15, w - 16, x - 7, y - 9, z - 2.
