More than half of JC students expect to earn $3,000 monthly for their first
job

In a survey conducted by BrightSparks, a scholarship, higher education and
career portal 55.4 per cent of ‘A’ level and IB graduates said they expect to
earn more than S$3,000 per month while 10 percent expects to make more than
S$4,000 per month after they graduate.

Four in 10 students voted Business Administration as the most popular course
of study, followed by Accounting (28.8%) and Engineering (28.6%) based on
findings of the same survey which covered some 2,700 students.

The top five most popular industries to work in are banking and financial
services, airline/travel, public service, healthcare and
auditing/accounting.

The survey also found that students prefer scholarships issued by local
universities to those awarded by government agencies or companies.

The National University of Singapore retained the top spot as the most
popular scholarship provider followed by NTU.

How many of you here think that the JC students are being delusional?

Probably only the few top students would get that, if they manage to get into
firms such as Morgan Stanley or Bloomberg.

Polytechnic graduates, especially those from SP and NAP, get $1,800 - $2,500
and they've got much better grounding in terms of real-world job specs.

These JC students are scaring the wits out of employers -- more Foreigners
coming your way!

With so many "cheap" foreign talents in Spore I also have my doubts about people getting $3,000 as an entry level pay.
Maybe the data is skewed, favouring GLCs where connections are more important than experienced

15 years ago in 1997, the starting monthly pay of fresh graduates was between $2,500 to $2,800.

If today we are still talking about $3,000 starting pay for our uni graduates, then it means our real wages are actually going down all these years!

Expected salary of $3k is reasonable considering an entry level position in a IB environment with 1 yr exp pays a little more than that.

IB pays good money but not a 'Iron rice bowl'. Wait till these young grads get married and have kids aka increased committments then working in a IB might pose further stress and challenges to them.
