Singapore is safest place for Indonesian criminals to hide

Theindonesiatoday.com - Former vice president Jusuf Kalla said Singapore is one of the safest countries to hide for Indonesians with legal problems at home.

"Singapore is the safest, no extradition agreement, close to Indonesia and easier for communications," Kalla said today as quoted by Kompas.com.

"Everybody goes there, those who are afraid of legal process," he said.

He re-floats the importance of extradition agreement between the two countries. When he was vice president, Kalla said, there were extensive talks about the extradition agreement. But finalization of the agreement failed, according to Kalla, because Singapore government pushed for a linkage with other agreements.

Without extradition agreement, Kalla said, government officers shall minimize travels of people with legal issues. Law enforcement officers, according to Kalla, shall be smart enough to prevent overseas travel of potential suspects.

Kalla made the statement in relation to efforts by the Corruption Eradication Commission to bring home Nunun Nurbaeti (suspect in a bribery scandal implicating 25 legislators in the election of senior deputy governor of Bank Indonesia Miranda Goeltom in 2004) and Demokrat Party's effort to bring home Muhammad Nazaruddin, former treasurer, who is a key witness in the athlete dormitory bribery scandal.

Nunun and Nazaruddin were reportedly in Singapore. Nunun reportedly owns an apartment in Singapore, while Nazaruddin's whereabouts not clear yet. (Theindonesiatoday.com)

They want us to extradite their multi gazillionaire tax evaders, yet refuse to sell sand to us. If they want something from us, I think it's fair to ask for something in return

Now you know why these peope usually overpay for their properties and is one of the factors making them unaffordable to locals.

What's the point of being a financial centre for dirty money-very often earned at the expense of the dirt poor citizens of their own country (many working overseas as maids and being abused).

I believe the people who paid themselves the highest salaries in the world to facilitate this will see retribution -like cancers. children born not normal (albino, gay, lesbians ect2).
