THE driver of a truck which killed a woman after failing to stop at a signalised pedestrian crossing was jailed for six months yesterday.
Tan Chin Tiong, 49, ran over Madam Lim Choy Leng, 64, while turning left into Jurong West Street 62 in November 2009, a court heard.
A witness saw Madam Lim waving her hands and trying to push herself away from the front of the prime mover after it hit her.
Tan carried on driving forward, the court heard.
Madam Lim ended up on the ground where she was run over by the front wheel of the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tan pleaded guilty to causing her death by dangerous driving. He was also banned from driving for seven years.
His lawyer said that because of his impatience, Tan had killed a person. He said his client was very sad and remorseful, and had learnt a painful lesson.
Tan could have been jailed for up to five years.
