It means there is nothing on page 2. It's caused when the forum script removes spam from view. The spam is still there for the moderator to review later on but members don't have to put up with it.

questions: how long does it take for the server to register a thread that is being read?
i've been reading some threads but they don't seem to be registered as threads i've read, until i mark the entire section as read.

i've been reading some threads but they don't seem to be registered as threads i've read, until i mark the entire section as read.

I have set it to the first option with the timeout of 900 seconds. (15 minutes).

If the forum takes off and I add another server, I'll change it to 3 which is the most accurate way of indicating what has been read and what has not.

Thread/Forum Read Marking Type This option controls how threads and forums are marked as read.
  1. Inactivity/Cookie Based - once a user has been inactive for a certain amount of time (the value of the session timeout option) all threads and forums are considered read. Individual threads are marked as read within a session via cookies.

This option is how all versions of vBulletin before 3.5 functioned.
  2. Database (no automatic forum marking) - this option uses the database to store thread and forum read times. This allows accurate read markers to be kept indefinitely. However, in order for a forum to be marked read when all threads are read, the user must view the list of threads for that forum.

This option is more space and processor intensive than inactivity-based marking.
  3. Database (automatic forum marking) - this option is the same as a previous option, but forums are automatically marked as read when the last new thread is read.

This is the most usable option for end users, but most processor intensive.

questions:

besides the respond from the intended person, how do we know if a post has been read by him/her in the thread?

besides from subscribing a thread, is there any other specific methods where we know that there's a post directed to us? similar notion, if someone intended to share a viewpoint and has made a post to me where i haven't subscribe, is there any way to find out?

That is the one area where the Delphi system is superior. In Delphi, two people would end up doing battle with each other oblivious to the other opinions that are being voiced in a thread because they simply clicked on the "2 (posts) to me" link. A thread with 30 new posts in Delphi was often nothing more than 2 people flaming each other for hours. They knew exactly who had responded to them and how many responses were waiting to be read.

In the Vbulletin format, people actually have to read through the thread to see what people are saying and who they are saying it to. I guess this does have some advantages as people are sort of forced to read the viewpoints of everyone.

The sex forum has operated for 7 years on the vbulletin platform and things seem to work fine when it comes to members interacting with each other despite the fact that it is not immediately obvious who is responding to who.

I guess it's all a matter of getting used to whatever format you are using.

Sam.... despite your notification in delphi about sbf closure... I still think you should clearly inform of closure date... and those who had their delphi nicks hijacked by jokers here.. can post their new nicks in your delphi sbf forum... at least that helps in the transition...

They can post their new nicks here. Just say "my nick on Delphi was xxx. It is now yyy."

It should only appear the first time you visit. Try logging out and logging back on again. The mangosteen banner should no longer appear.

is there anyway to add an IGNORE button in ur function? postings fr clones is an eyesore. it wastes time to scroll down to the next rational post.

additional of IGNORE button saves us lots of trouble and a more plesant perusal.
