Amid cheers from the congregation, City Harvest Church (CHC) yesterday announced that it will pay $310 million to become a co-owner of Suntec Singapore, a prime piece of downtown real estate.

Senior pastor Kong Hee broke the news first at CHC's service at its Jurong West building, then later at another service at the Singapore Expo in Changi.

He said CHC had acquired a 'substantial stake in a consortium company that owns 80 per cent of a joint venture fund that owns Suntec Singapore'.

The complex's full name is Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The $310 million includes the cost of acquiring shares in the consortium, rental costs, renovation costs and others.

Suntec Singapore was acquired by ARA Asset Management through the ARA Harmony Fund last year, with its investors comprising Suntec Reit - which holds 20 per cent - and a consortium company which holds 80 per cent.

then how can we be sure what is real and what is unreal that we are believing or worshipping?

since when does GOD need money?

Religious organisations which make lots of money must be reclassified as commercial organisations and pay taxes accordingly.

Previously, these organisations existed to help the poor, etc. and are non-profit organisations.

Is property leasing, commercial business activities and maybe entertainment business activities, which are clearly profitable ventures, still classifiable as non-profit and thus tax-free?

Having such mega church is like Branding, they need to be rich to attract the rich. Its about status, CHC has become a prestige Christian brand.

For the so called servants of God, their mission in life should be to prepare themselves for the arrival (or second coming) of the messiah and not to spend so much time and effort in enriching themselves...

I knew someone who joined CHC because of this. Never saw him again after that.

i can only use this analogy to answer your question...

let say you are the civil servants....do you pledge your loyalty to peasants or the Hakka Lee..

even though when you pledge loyalty to Hakka Lee, you will be rewarded with quick promotions and lots of $$$$...

but one fine day, the regime changes and you ended up losing your job because of your loyalty to the previous regime...some even in disgraced...and investigated for corruption and nepotism.

for those who stayed loyal to the peasants, they got appreciated and were re-en-stated to the qualified positions. This reward is eternal no matter how many regime changes any country goes through....

i totally agree, various church have made their believers to pay them so much money and that is still not enough, they still go around investing in business. as a matter of fact, the momment they invest into business they shouldn't be classified as non-profit organisation because their investment itself is a profitable cause.
