<!-- story content : start --> KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIAN police said three severed pigs' heads were found at two mosques on Wednesday, in the latest of a spate of attacks on places of worship that have escalated ethnic tensions. National police chief Musa Hassan said one head was found in the grounds of the Masjid Taman Dato Harun in a Kuala Lumpur suburb and two others were left at the nearby Al Imam al Tirmizi mosque. The heads were from wild pigs commonly found in Malaysia.

'By looking at the modus operandi of the two incidents... I think it is the same group that is involved in the previous attacks,' he said, referring to assaults on two Muslim prayer halls and 11 churches in recent weeks. The places of worship were pelted with Molotov cocktails, stones and paint in tensions triggered by a court ruling that overturned a government ban on non-Muslims using the word 'Allah' as a translation for 'God'.

Mr Musa said he believed the attacks were being funded by a group that was attempting to worsen tensions in Malaysia, a predominantly Muslim nation which is also home to large ethnic Chinese and Indian communities. 'I think they are throwing money to those carrying out the attacks to cause such incidents,' he told reporters. 'Don't play with fire, I will not compromise on the security of the country. Please do not provoke the public or any parties to undermine the security of the country,' he added. -- AFP

KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA last week detained 50 people under laws which allow for them to be held without trial, an advocacy group said on Wednesday. The detentions come at a time of raised religious and ethnic tensions over the use of the word 'Allah' by Christians to denote their God in Malay language publications.

The government had warned that the so-called Internal Security Act (ISA) could be deployed to keep tensions from boiling over. 'Fifty people were nabbbed and then 38 were released. There are twelve still detained,' Nalini Elumalai, a spokewoman for the Abolish ISA movement, told Reuters by telephone.

Eleven churches, a Catholic school, a Sikh temple, three mosques and two Muslim prayer rooms so far have been hit by arson or vandalism in recent weeks amid a row over the use of the word 'Allah'. Analysts have said the attacks, although not an immediate risk, are raising worries among some foreign investors at a time when Prime Minister Najib Razak has pledged to lure more foreign investment. -- REUTERS
