Four youths arrested for loansharking activities

Police have arrested four male youths, aged between 14 and 18 years old, for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

Two of the suspects were arrested on Sunday, while the other two were arrested yesterday after follow-up investigations by the Police.

The first two who appeared nervous, had aroused the suspicion of officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division performing routine anti-crime patrols in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Ave 3.

The two youths fled but were detained after a short chase.

A check was conducted and small bottles of black paint, marker pens, and a notebook with entries suspected to be debtors' records, were recovered from their possession.

Following up on information and investigative leads gathered from the two youths another two male suspects, aged 17 and 18, were arrested.

The four male suspects are believed to be involved in the same loansharking syndicate.

Police also seized a handphone, suspected debtors' records, paint, marker pens and a screw driver believed to be used in these activities, from the 18 year-old suspect's residence.

The second pair of suspects will be charged in Court today for the offence of loanshark harassment under the Moneylenders Act 2008.

The other two suspects have been released on bail, pending further investigations.
