</td></tr> </tbody></table> <!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--> POLICE have arrested a man who is believed to have committed several cases of theft by impersonating a police officer, and in the latest case, an NEA officer on Wednesday afternoon. Police have received a number of reports since July 2008 from vicitims who fell prey to a man claiming to be a police officer.

The suspect was known to target lone male foreigners between 18 and 38 years. Dressed in plainclothes, he would flash a pass and identify himself as a police officer, inform them that they had littered, and then asked for their belongings like passports, work permits, mobile phones and cash. After getting hold of these items, he would slip away. The suspect last struck by posing as a National Environmental Agency officer on March 23 and got away with $2,000 cash, a mobile phone and a work permit from an Indonesian man outside Bugis Junction. Eight days later, he was spotted by officers from the Central Police Division, striking up conversations with strangers and behaving suspiciously at Bugis Village. The officers followed him and finally caught him along Victoria Street that evening. They found a company pass and two mobile phone SIM cards that he could not account for. The suspect will be charged in court.

Bogus Cop Arrested by Real Cops

The suspect, a 44-year old Malay man, will be charged in Court for 1) Impersonating a Public Servant under Section 170 of the Penal Code which carry a punishment of imprisonment of 2 years and or fine or with both and 2) Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code which carry a punishment of imprisonment of 3 years and or fine or with both.

Police arrested two Malay men aged 22 and 24 years yesterday, who are believed to be involved in at least twenty cases of motorcycle thefts in the Toa Payoh, Macpherson and Whampoa housing estates.

Quick-Thinking Students Assist in Arrest of Robbers

On 23 March 2009, a 30-year old foreign worker was confronted by the three male Malay suspects at Bukit Batok Street 24. One of the suspects punched him while another snatched the victim’s wallet from his hand. The victim cried out for help as the trio fled to Blk 290G Bukit Batok St 24.

Swift Arrest of 2 Robbery Suspects

The first suspect, a 18 year-old male Malay, was subsequently arrested on 19 March 2009 at about 2.45 pm at Blk 37 Circuit Road. Following that, the second suspect, an 19 year-old male Malay was also arrested shortly at about 3.30pm along Upper Thomson Road.
