A MAN was charged on Thursday with wrongfully restraining a Thai prostitute who subsequently fell to her death. Edmund Peter Anthony, 36, a restaurant manager, is accused of tying Madam Jintana Sae Ueng's hands behind her back with a necktie and her ankles with another necktie at his ninth-floor flat at Clementi Avenue 4 on Oct 15, 2007.

The 27-year-old woman had entered Singapore on a social visit pass about two weeks before her death. Last month, a State Coroner found that her death was an accident and recorded a verdict of misadventure. Anthony's lawyer, Mr Christopher Bridges, said his client would take a certain course and asked for the case to be adjourned. Anthony will be back in court on Feb 26. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to one month or a fine of up to $500 or both.
