Too many political parties spoil the broth

Even in Western Democracies, there aren't a multitude of parties. In the USA, it's mainly Republican vs Democrat. In the UK, Labourvs Conservatives and maybe the Liberal Deomcrat party, which is strong but not a power house.

In Singapore, we have the Reform Party to add to the political arena. What should happen is a large and clear visioned political party to taken on the ruling party not a hodgepodge of parties with no aims.

Who say no aims?

These small parties all aim to grow bigger and bigger and be the other party in a two-party State.

Problem is nobody wants to give in. Everybody thinks he's something and has different views.

JBJ case is different. I think he will win a seat definitely. He should go for SMC to ensure a kill.

The GRC route does not quite work for JBJ - JBJ, CSJ, CSC all has tried it but failed. The advantage of GRC is if they win, they have x number of MPs in parliament.

But JBJ needs to get in asap. He's old. SMC is the way to get in. Bukit Batok :p

i agree. but if history is any guide. SG political development has always been second to JBJ's big and sick ego. we will see at this late stage in his life whether he is capable of some statemanship or is he still stuck in kacang putih politiks.

End of the day the many political parties here have no vision of the future to sell to the voters. The same can be said of the current ruling regime. Gone are the days where they tell you what kind of vision they have for the nation. These days it is just "we do a good job vote for us!"

In most democratic countries, there are many political parties but there will be only a few political party, strong enough and have the popularity support to be the ruling govt. This is what they call a two or three party politics.

In Republic of China, there are 141 political parties. But there are only two main parties, DPP and KMT with many smaller parties unable to win anything in election.

It's up to WP, SDP or SDA to make that big step up and challenge PAP for the two party politics.
