The recent Coroner's Inquest into the death of a young lady has brought to the mind many questions.

Was the approach by the police really a good move?

Isn't the women police too young to be sent ALONE to attend to such a case.?

Why wasn't her Team Supervisor despatched to assist her?

Why wasn't skilled volunteers from the Samaritans Of Singapore (SOS) alerted?

Wouldn't it HAD BEEN BETTER to allow the FATHER of the deceased to talk to the daughter before that fatal plunge? I am sure the sight of the dad would have made the situation much more different!!

6 months of training as a policewoman and 2 months on the field is far too short to expect good results as far as performance is concerned. Even a new pilot has the Captain by his side always.

Something has to be done to make the men (and women) in blue much proffessional. Maybe their training department has to ensure that proper training and "seasoned" instructors are always dispensed and available, respectively.

Such cases require a lau chiao to attend. His/her age and experience makes a difference whether a potential suicide victim jumps or retreat. Similar to hostage negotiators. Get a new bird? Sure gone case.

The same goes for handling domestic disputes. If the attending officers all in their 20s, how to advice parties in dispute to resolve their dispute when the latter can be parents or grandparents of the officers in terms of age?
