How long is a cheque valid for? From the date on the cheque is it 6 months or 1 year?

If no date of expiry is printed on the cheque, the default is 6 months. However, the cheque issuer may shorten the period by having a shorter period printed on the cheque, usually 3 months.

Wonder why this question come about? Who care whether 3 months or 6 months? Everytime I receive a cheque, bank in immediately or next working day LOL
