Youth arrested for bomb hoax calls to police
SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 14-year-old youth for making hoax calls about a bomb threat to the police emergency hotline.
Police said on July 30 at about 9am, they received several anonymous '999' calls from a person claiming he would bomb Singapore.
In response, police conducted extensive ground enquiries to establish the identity of the suspect.
Hours later - at about midnight - officers arrested the suspect at his home at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had neither intention nor the means to carry out his threats.
Investigations are ongoing.
Police said it is an offence to make false reports of a terrorist act. Any person found guilty of the offence can be fined up to $100,000 and jailed up to five years. - CNA/de
