While those First World ang-moh hawkers in First World society will would have written many petitions to newspapers to complain if their Town Council were to make them lose even $14, let alone $140 in setting scaffolding that was not used and get wasted. But AH-PEk hawkers are more ‘First World’ than First World. Losing $140 or even $1400 on wasted scaffolding is peanuts to them and not a big issue. They can easily absorbed the loss in silence as compared to those First World ang-moh hawkers who only know how to kao-pei-kao-bu for every single peanut.
Also, any First World angmoh hawkers would have taken to the street to demonstrate and protest if their dishonest Town Council were to cheat them and did not clean the market ceiling as promised, making the place more unhygienic and unhealthy. But AH-PEk hawkers are beyond the ‘First World’ standard. They will never complain if their market was never cleaned for decades or even centuries. Their hygiene and health are expendable compared to the profit margin of their ‘First World’ Town Council.
Moreover, any First World angmoh hawkers would sue their incompetent Town Council if it made them close stalls longer than necessary to suffer financial losses. Legal letters would be sent immediately demanding compensation for financial and psychological damages. Again, the post-First World AH-PEk hawkers are more civilized, understanding and reasonable than those First World ang-moh hawkers. Their financial losses can be easily absorbed and forgotten. There is no need to blow up the big issue After all, their daily hardship is nothing but a mini-storm in a mini-teacup in the eyes of the eilistist Hammerrhoids.
Worse, any First World angmoh hawker would kick their MP out of office if the MP has failed to reply to them promptly in less than 1 day or even 1 hour.
