Woman jailed for $11k criminal breach of trust
By Elena Chong
A FORMER assistant accountant of The St James was jailed for four months on Wednesday for misappropriating $11,663 from the company.
Cheong Ting Hui, 30, had admitted to pocketing the amount between October 2008 and March 15, 2009 when she was an employee.
The court heard that Cheong, who was hired in November 2007, was given a sum of $70,000 each month to pay workers. She had to deposit the remaining sum into the company's bank account.
On March 20, 2009, a finance manager was checking through the accounts when she discovered a shortfall of $11,663.
Cheong could not account for the shortage or show any supporting documents for what she had spent.
She could have been jailed for up to 15 years and fined for the offence.
