GEORGE TOWN - A Thai woman defecated 40 capsules of cocaine weighing 320g at the Penang Hospital after she was arrested in her hotel room here.

The 27-year-old woman, who had swallowed the drugs in capsule form, was also believed to have inserted a capsule of the drug, weighing 215g, into her vagina.

Penang Narcotics deputy chief Asst Supt Lee King Chuan said she was believed to have concealed the drugs in her body for several days.

He added that the woman was arrested at about 11.45am on Nov 21 at a hotel here following a tip-off.

ASP Lee said the suspect had arrived on that day from Changi Airport in Singapore.

He added that the woman's passport revealed that she had departed from Sao Paulo, Brazil, and made a transit in Barcelona, Spain, before leaving for Singapore and finally arriving in Penang.

ASP Lee said the value of the drugs was estimated to be at about RM160,000 and police were investigating whether the drugs were for the local market.

"The modus operandi for such syndicates is for the carriers to swallow the drugs in capsules," he said.

ASP Lee said police were also checking to see if the suspect was linked to any local syndicate.

He said the woman, who is jobless, had entered Malaysia for the first time and would be remanded until Nov 28.
