Vietnamese man dressed as woman nabbed with drugs
KUALA LUMPUR: A Vietnamese airline passenger, believed to be a transsexual, was arrested while trying to smuggle about 3kg of designer drugs into the country.
Three hours after nabbing him, police also seized an unclaimed bag containing about 3.1kg of the drugs.
Federal narcotics crime investigation department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the 28-year-old man, who was in women’s clothing, was caught at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport in Kuantan at around 7.55pm on Oct 25.
“When we checked the suspect’s bag, we found 2.99kg of syabu in a hidden compartment.
“The suspect flew from Delhi to the KL International Airport (KLIA) and boarded a connecting flight to Kuantan,” Comm Noor Rashid told reporters at Bukit Aman yesterday.
He said the suspect was dressed as a woman when arrested but document checks revealed he was a man.
On the unclaimed bag, he said checks revealed it belonged to a passenger who flew in via a flight from Chennai to KLIA and then to Kuantan.
“We are trying to locate the owner of the bag to help with investigations,” he said.
Comm Noor Rashid said police believed that the drug syndicates involved were based in India as they had intercepted a number of recent cases where the drugs originated from there.
“Most of the cases from India often involve smuggling the drugs in luggage or delivering them here via courier service,” he said.
In an unrelated case, Comm Noor Rashid said police crippled a local drug smuggling syndicate with the arrest of two men and a woman at Jalan Rimbunan Raya in Kepong.
“We stopped a Toyota Supra sports car and a Proton Gen2 based on information we gathered and arrested the three.
“In the vehicles we found two revolvers, a Mauser Norinco 30 calibre and a Smith and Wessen along with 12 bullets,” he said, adding that police also seized 501g of Syabu and RM263,841 in cash and jewellery.
He said further investigations revealed the syndicate was supplying drugs for sale in the Klang Valley and neighbouring districts.
“All three suspects did not have any prior records and have been remanded to help with investigations,” he added.
