SINGAPORE - Two teens aged 15 and 18 have been arrested for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On Sunday (April 24) at about 8pm, the police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment in which loanshark-related graffiti was scribbled on the wall, and paint was splashed on the door of a unit at 65 Commonwealth Drive.

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of police cameras, officers from Clementi Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them on Tuesday (April 26) in Marsiling.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were believed to have carried out similar acts of loanshark harassments in Yishun, Jurong, Telok Blangah, Bedok, Tampines, Eunos, Marsiling, and Commonwealth, police said in a news release on Wednesday (April 27).

Under the Moneylenders Act, first-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment can be fined between $5,000 and $50,000, with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years and mandatory caning of up to six strokes.
