POLICE have arrested two men, aged 29 and 31, for suspected involvement in loansharking activities on Monday.
Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Divison were conducting a road block along Woodlands Ave 7 at 3.30am when they stopped a vehicle with 2 men inside.
Upon a check, the officers found several plastic bags, cans and a plastic bottle containing paint, marker pens as well as a book with suspected debtors' records in the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects are debtors-turned-runners who had carried out acts of loanshark harassment in Sembawang, Commonwealth and Sengkang by splashing paint on debtors' units and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on walls.
Both men will be charged in Court on Tuesday for loanshark harassment under the Moneylenders Act.
First time offenders found guilty of abetting to commit loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years and mandatory caning of up to six strokes.
