TWO dormitory operators have been fined by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) for allowing employers to house foreign workers in poor living conditions.
Sunhuan Construction had two fines of $10,000 each imposed on it, while ST9 was fined $50,000.
This is the first time that MOM is taking action against companies abetting the offence of failing to provide acceptable accommodation.
Previously, it penalised only the employers of these foreign workers.
In October last year, MOM - together with the Urban Redevelopment Authority - found 377 foreign workers from 12 companies living in cramped, poorly ventilated conditions at the Tagore Industrial Avenue dormitory, which was operated by Sunhuan.
