This WILL be the century where Asians dominate the world economy

I have no doubts that this will be the century where Asians dominate the world economy.

The world economy has always centred around India and China, from year 1 to year 1800. They were the centre of the earth, the most advanced civilisations that gave us paper, cotton, metal welding, gunpowder, paper money, so on and so forth.

But in 1800, the great divergence occurred. Britain became the first country to discover and harness the power of modern science and technology. Europe and America followed suit.

The industrial revolution is the main reason why the world's order is what it is today. From 1800-2000, Western Europe and America dominated the world's economy.

And of course, Asian countries that embraced the industrial revolution also became very formidable and rich countries. Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macao, some of the gulf states etc, comes to mind.

But since China and India are now embracing science and technology, they are going to grow, unless there is a war. It is just as simple as that, they will grow.

And guess what, by 50 years time, both countries, especially China will be number the 1 economy in the world. Their mindset will take time to change but they need to embrace science, technology, logic, democracy and reasoning; which they are doing.

It is inevitable that China becomes the world largest economy. But it will still lag behind developed countries in terms of standard of living and wages etc. But the heft and might of China as a country will be great.

Right now two of the worlds top 3 economies are Asian. USA number 1. China number 2. Japan number 3.

We are mitigating the effects of the great divergence here. This will be the century where the Asian powers of China, India and along with them, all the countries in Asia, will be lifted up to the top of the pile.

While China's standard of living in 50 years time will not be as high as developed countries, it will be very very comparable and China will be a very attractive place to live in in 50 years time.

This graph shows the GDP per capita of the world. See how much it was raised after the industrial revolution in the 1800s?

China is nothing more than a sweat shop for the yanks. Once the Americans decide to shift production somewhere else, the chinks will be back in the dark ages for the simple reason that Chinese have zero creativity. They're nothing more than cheats, con artists and copycats.

They had a 5000 year head start on the rest of the world and look where they are. The majority of the country still sleep with their pigs and shit in buckets.

it has to start with a world class education system and democracy system. can china churn out the likes of havard, MIT, stanford world renowned research universities have yet to be seen. China, like SG, needs top foreign talents help. The advantage, however, it its size, wealth and massive population. It, however, lack the 'cool' factor and a overhaul of its image is needed, especially the perception of chinese nationals.

In order for a democracy to work, a country has to reach a state of maturity whereby people with diametrically opposing political beliefs can still go out for a beer together in the evening despite having engaged in a bitter political debate the whole afternoon.

The Chinese have a long way to go.... another 5000 years perhaps.

judging by the number of chinese nationals still flocking to western countries for higher education or/and emigration, yes, its a long way to go. u don't suddenly see people flocking to china for education or emigration. Its a force to reckon with, but unlikely to overpower the yanks years to come. The stumbling block is its direct cultural difference from the west, which many western people find it hard to comprehend, even if they master the chinese language.

Hmm then why is it that in most "democratic" countries, politicians sling m&d at each other all day long? Even if they do have beer together, they do it because they want "face", ie appear to be gracious. But the reality is, even while drinking beer, they are thinking of how to backstab each other next.

And why is it in many so called "democratic" countries, the citizens are dumb as hell, take drugs all day long, share an unhealthy penchant for cigarettes and alcohol, rude, lack morals, lack basic manners and violent; simply put these countries are filled to the brim with lowlife scums.

Care to enlighten me?

It is not surprising that Singaporeans will fail to understand how democracy works, and this thing called the parliamentary privileges.

Politics is what it has always been. I suggest you have a look at the BBC series on Yes, Prime Minister to understand how governments are formed in the West (UK, OZ, NZ). This is something the PAP will never tell you.

There are friendships across partisan politics as well as enemies within the same parties.

That is what I used to think in the past. But Australian voters continue to surprise us with rational voting.

It does not help that the extreme and the loudest catch the media's attention.

But we cannot stop human behaviour. Singaporeans should know better about their own double standards. The 10% that take drugs all day long, share an unhealthy penchant for cigarettes and alcohol, rude, lack morals, lack basic manners and violent. The only difference is that over 70% of Singaporeans are dumb enough to give up their rights to be treated with dignity, in exchange for "harmony and peaceful" lives under the thumb of a controlling nanny.

Singaporeans who migrate overseas should learn to think, unlearn their Singaporeanness and enjoy their real freedom.
You have stepped out of a wall into the real world.

You want to teach me about politics? Should be the other way around.

You are in Australia right? Ask yourself how did Julia Gilard overthrew Kevin Rudd just weeks before the elections? Over a friendly beer, with warm wishes and a care bear in hand?

Look at the US or Taiwan and you will see partisan politics. It took them 2 decades just to pass the healthcare reform bill because each party was busy slinging m&d at each other and refusing to cooperate.

Don't be naive boy. And don't be brainwashed. And don't try to talk down to people and paint a picture of utopia in Australia. You just make yourself sound so stupid.

I think you got it wrong. The election is called by JG. She should have stayed on to establish a proven record before calling one.

KRudd is still a ALP MP. Not exile somewhere.

I do not care what goes on overseas. Keep Australian pollies honest is already enough for me.

Don't be naive boy. And don't be brainwashed. And don't try to talk down to people and paint a picture of utopia in Australia. You think you are talking to some third world idiot who has no idea what goes on in Australia? Please.

I used to be naive until I have do dirty jobs for PAP. Don't tell me you were not there in Anson when LKY asked the reporters to leave, before his very important speech to the grassloots, after rigging the election.

Utopia comes from yourself. If you cannot make peace with yourself, how can you experience happiness and utopia.

If you expect your environment to be perfect, you will be disappointed.

But, in order to create your own happiness, it is a lot easier to have freedom. Unless the person is Nelson Mandela in Robbin Island.
