Thief caught on tape
A MOBILE phone thief who was caught on tape was arrested on Thursday. The police were first alerted on Aug 14, when the 50-year-old male victim reported that his mobile phone, worth around $240, had been stolen. The victim had left his mobile phone on the counter of his shop at Blk 113 Bukit Merah View when it was stolen. He told the police that the suspect had been captured by the CCTV camera in his shop.
Using the footage, officers were able to trace the 39-year-old suspect to Blk 116 Bukit Merah View. He was immediately placed under arrest. Two mobile phones found in his possession were also seized as case exhibits. The suspect will be charged in Court on 21 Aug 2010 for the offence. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 7 years.
