Uncontrolled anger can cause someone to do unspeakable things, often resulting in devastating results for both the victim and perpetrator.

A young man in Johor was recently charged in court for allegedly biting the ear of his brother-in-law with such force that it was completely severed.

Berita Harian reported that the suspect, 28-year-old Tan Kim Meng who worked as a waiter in Singapore, was charged with committing the crime against his 41-year-old brother-in-law at a vehicle spare parts shop on Jalan Sakeh, Muar, at 1:25pm on Monday (Oct 30).

The incident was sparked when Tan’s family members wanted to bring him to a mental treatment centre in KL.
In response, Tan became enraged and bit his brother-in-law’s ear until it was completely ripped off. A police report was later lodged at the Muar district police headquarters (IPD).

Tan’s brother-in-law was then admitted to Hospital Sultanah Pakar Fatimah for further treatment.

Ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment

At the Muar Magistrate’s Court, Tan was charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code, where he faces up to seven years in prison and a fine if convicted.
However, no plea was recorded from him when the charge was read out by the court interpreter.

At the prosecution’s request, Tan was ordered by Magistrate Fatin Dalilah Khalid to undergo psychiatric treatment at Hospital Permai in Tampoi, Johor Bahru.
The court has set November 30 as the next hearing date and submission of medical records.
