A 52-year-old man was charged with one count of rash act causing hurt after he allegedly attacked four people at a massage parlour in Tampines with two plastic chairs.

Mohamed Sariff Bin Mohamed Kassim
was arrested on Jan. 16, 2023, for assaulting members of the public in the vicinity of Block 825 Tampines Street 81.

According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF) press release, the police were alerted to multiple calls for assistance involving a man who was assaulting members of the public on Jan. 16 at 8pm.

Preliminary investigations showed that Sariff allegedly used two chairs to attack four persons.

Several members of the public, including one off-duty police offer, helped to detain Sariff before the police arrived at the scene.

Two victims were conscious when conveyed to the hospital.

According to court documents, Sarif swung a plastic chair in the direction of one victim and hit the victim's right arm. It caused the victim to suffer swelling on his right arm.

Sariff was charged in court on Jan. 18, 2023, and is remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for medical examination.

Sariff is scheduled to next appear in court on Feb. 1, 2023.

If found guilty, Sariff could be jailed for up to one year, fined S$5,000 or both.

"The police have zero tolerance towards such acts of violence and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law," the SPF said in their statement.
