The redevelopment of quarter acre sections is happening in suburbs all over the world as land prices soar near big cities.

Often 2 to 3 house owners adjacent to each other will get together to sell out to a developer who then demolishes the houses and replaces 3 houses with 12 town houses to make a pile of money if he times the market right.

Are you still in Australia? How's the landed housing situation over there? Really so messy?

Australia is HUGE!!! The housing market is fine in some regions and not so good in others. It all depends upon which part of the 7.7 MILLION sq km you are referring to.

This case is in Sydney's north-west.

Another two cases involving a gila glass house T&R and a nightmarish balcony rebuilt at Gold Coast.
Looks like Australia landed housing is farked, LOL:

How did the city authorities ever approve this ugly duplex structure.

Dunno. Looks like Down under housing policies is like farking messy likely due to corruption and poor governance.

We should appreciate what we are having in SG whereby once a landed house is approved and built according to URA specs, there will be no more such ranjiao disputes about approval and law suits from neighbours, LOL.

Perth is fine there's still loads of space.

Melbourne has many areas where the building code does not allow changes in the facade of the buildings.

Same goes with Canberra and Adelaide and Sydney. Not familiar with Gold Coast rules but I assume that some neighbourhoods are protected too.

In addition there are millions of acres of rural development where you don't even know your neighbour exists.

People who want privacy should choose areas where the chances of a monstrosity next door are no existent. In the suburbs people buy for the convenience of being close to a city and they are free to maximise the use of the land. Same rules apply to all.

if state and local laws allow the addition of “in-law” quarters within the property (accessory dwelling unit or adu in amerika) there’s nothing neighbors can do except file a frivolous lawsuit to delay construction but it will inevitably cost them legal fees and fail.
