SAF captain charged with 5 counts of corruption

AN ARMY captain was charged on Monday with five counts of corruption in the form of cash loans totalling $53,100 from a businessman.
Phua Poh Sim, 31, is accused of corruptly receiving between $1,700 and $28,000 from Yow Wah alias Richard between May and August 2008 in return for providing confidential information relating to military projects in the Singapore Armed Forces.
Yow, 58, was charged in the same court with bribing him at his Brighton Avenue home in Serangoon Gardens.
Phua and Yow were represented by Ms Gloria James and Mr S. S. Dhillon respectively.
A pre-trial conference has been set for June 9.
If convicted, each of them faces a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a jail term of up to five years per charge.
