这个当年风光无限的官员，心里怎么想呢？据深圳市检察院办案人员透露，钟新明在狱中忏悔道：“我内心的感受，只能用一个‘痛’字来概括，自己痛苦不堪，家人痛心不已，同事痛惜不解。我如今只有两个奢望：一是求得自由之身，只要能看到蓝天绿地，回乡下种地都幸福。二是求得后悔之药，补救过去的罪过。那些非法所得就像一颗炸弹，把自己炸毁了，也把已经得到的、应当拥有的，全都炸没了。”
染指土地置换收受3300万港币
据记者了解，钟新明最主要的犯罪事实，是在龙岗区黄阁坑村一块土地的开发中，涉嫌收受吴伟光3300万元港币。
2007年，深圳市对龙岗区体育新城范围内的16.82平方公里的土地进行重新规划。黄阁坑村地处体育新城范围内，多处土地和建筑物面临征收、补偿、安置、开发等问题。深圳市检察院反贪部门办案组查明，钟新明利用常务副区长和体育新城土地整备安置领导小组常务副组长的职权，给予黄阁坑村诸多帮忙和关照：黄阁坑村两块工业用地，被违反规定等面积置换为商住用地，并被安排进入体育新城；一块商住用地被调换到更好的位置。
涉案的这块面积约9000平方米的土地，钟新明原本打算交给自己弟弟钟伟明开发，并以“领导的朋友”想开发这块地作为幌子。后来开发商吴伟光找到钟新明，要求开发这块地，经过讨价还价，确定了3300万港币的好处费。钟新明告知黄阁坑村委会，该地块确定由吴伟光来开发。
