<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"-->BEIJING - THE Chinese company at the centre of a nationwide infant health scare has issued a product recall after discovering some of its baby milk powder was contaminated, state media said Thursday.
The announcement followed reports of babies being hospitalised with kidney stones after drinking the milk formula. At least one has died, according to the state Xinhua news agency.
Dairy company Sanlu had maintained the suspect milk powder was produced by counterfeiters illegally using the group's name. But Xinhua reported late on Thursday the company had discovered some of its baby milk powder had been contaminated with tripolycyanamide, and was recalling everything produced before August 6. -- AFP

This is a little dated... so far 170 have been reported to have fallen sick, and 13 have died. The problem powder was definitely made by counterfieters.

As for the local take on the product - although it is one of the cheapest products available, fortunately Sanlu is by no means very popular compared to other more expensive brands.
