Taipei, Nov. 23 (CNA) Closer attention will be paid to the security of Taipei American School, which reportedly received new threats from a former student who had been found guilty of making such threats in the past, police said on Monday.

In a letter sent to parents and faculty, Sharon Hannessy, the head of the school, said "a former, disgruntled student," who was found guilty of making threats over a year ago, "reappeared with new threats," according to a report published on the Apple Daily's website.

Hannessy said the school is working with the police, prosecutor's office and the American Institute in Taiwan and has enhanced security measures, but did not name the person who made the threats in the letter.

The Taipei City Police Department's Shilin Precinct and the police station in the Tianmu area, where the school is located, said they have not received reports about new threats made to the school, as of press time.

Police said patrols are already in place throughout the day, and they will work with the school and pay attention to the situation.

In December 2014, Andrew Chiang, a great grandson of late President Chiang Kai-shek, was convicted of intimidation over threats he made against the school and faculty through Facebook and e-mails between August and November 2013.

He paid a NT$183,000 (US$5,613) fine in June in lieu of serving a six-month jail sentence.
