SINGAPORE - The police have advised the public to remain vigilant against crime as they go about shopping at the Geylang Serai Hari Raya Bazaar, especially on the eve of Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Aug 7.
As large crowds are expected during that time, the police suggested that shoppers should avoid carrying large amounts of cash with them; avoid adorning children with excessive gold jewellery; and avoid placing their wallets in their back pockets.
The police also said that crowded areas also provides criminals with an opportune time to commit molest so members of the public should be alert to their surroundings.
Heavy vehicular traffic is also expected along Changi Road and Sims Ave from 6.00 pm on Aug 7 to 4.00 am on Aug 8. Motorists are advised to avoid the affected roads, make alternative travel arrangements and drive with caution.
Auxiliary police officers will be deployed at all affected road junctions to regulate traffic and assist motorists. Illegal parking along the main and arterial roads will be strictly enforced, said the police. Vehicles found parking indiscriminately or causing obstruction will be towed away.
